I put my head on Megan's shoulder when I was feeling tired. Isa did warn me the ride can make you sleepy but I didn't expect it to hit me on the way over.
But she didn't complain and had already demolished the entire box.
T and J had went out to go take pictures and I knew because my phone kept quietly buzzing saying they had sent me pictures.
Nice gesture, but if they and I weren't careful then Megan would definitely have seen something when I clicked in to look.
But she was so still, I thought she had dozed off already herself.
And at least when the guys came down and saw us they pretended like it wasn't happening, and got all excited because 'oh my god, we're almost there!'.
It was kind of sweet, and definitely made everything that bit more bearable.
But when we finally got off, my legs were aching from it all and T looked ready to say something. I knew he was dying to tell his sister that we should be a couple at last or whatever.
"Look up the hill at the castle," Isa butted in, right on time.
The castle was.....honestly pretty crap, I'll admit. Not that I would ever say that in front of T, I would probably never hear the end of it.
"So I take it none of you are gonna come?" he asked.
"Stars. Can't do it. Not today," I said in response, my excuse for not doing things.
Meg rolled her eyes but she was smiling too as T ran off with J to the village.
With Alice and Isa ahead of us, I walked with the meanest girl you'd ever meet and tried to think of something.
And for whatever reason, came up with prom.
When she mimicked my "so" it helped ease the nerves I had.
"I know you are one of those people who think prom can go fuck itself," I started.
It was true, she would only go if her siblings and mothers pushed her into it.
"But I was hoping you could save me a dance?" I finished. Because I thought a girl as pretty as her might have already gotten a date with someone a lot better than me.
Meg proceeded to give me the side eye.
"Are you trying to ask me to prom, Miss Stewart?" she asked in her creepy nice voice which does not intimidate me one little bit.
So in retaliation I rolled my eyes, with a tiny smile. "Way to steal the thunder, Barker," I shot back.
"So do you want a dance, or something else?" Megan responded.
I took one look and laughed, she was far too cute to be intimidating.
Even when she looked offended I burst out laughing.
On spotting the claw machines I raced over with Alice, knowing immediately she and Isa would have some sort of plan to put us in a situation alone together.
Better just to confront one, then the other with a bit of a distraction.
"Okay, have you done anything with Megan yet? Everyone is dying to know," she said as I put a coin into the machine and attempted to direct the claw.
"Kissed, and I may have asked her to prom," I answered, watching with glee as a stuffed Despicable Me minion fell through the hole.
Alice's screeches were somewhat muffled over the burst of music blaring from the machine after I had won.
"Finally," she said at last, calming down.
"I hate you both so much right now," I muttered.
And I was not looking forward to whatever else they had planned, because Trent and Jake obviously wanted to know too. The only reason they hadn't talked to Megan about it was because she can be so complicated and snarky and pushy and overall not exactly a fun person to talk to.
That's why it was so impossible for me to believe she would ever like me, she acted so mean I thought I was her worst enemy.
...............
Then it was Isa who cornered me. I had went into the back of the most wonderful charity shop to ever exist to go find something cheap in a leather jacket form.
"You kissed then?" she asked, her voice a whisper while she looked round the shoes.
"Then she freaked and told me she wasn't straight," I answered.
Isa paused to try on a pair of heels she would never actually wear.
"Still, what else?" she went on. "Because you have been talking a lot today."
And I hesitated, before muttering, "I asked her to save me a dance at prom."
Isa spun round, throwing an armful of clothing into the air and got a tight grip on my shoulders.
"When were you going to tell us this?" she hissed.
"Um.....just whenever I could," I lied, because it's the safest way out of her death grip.
Thankfully I was released seconds after.
"Well, she better be nice to you," Isa said as she picked up the clothes she had thrown down.
After that, we stopped at a sweet little café for some lunch which Isa insisted on paying for.
Not even Meg tried to fight her, it was hopeless.
"Did you seriously win all of them?" she had asked when we sat down.
"Yep," I answered proudly.
We shared a plate of pancakes and talked about a whole ton of things, except for the night before.
"So Marty will have to know neither of us are interest sooner or later," Megan said, halfway through her third pancake.
"Yeah, but worry about that at prom. If you want to go," I replied.
She raised an eyebrow. "You're asking me now?"
And I would have come up with a smartass reply, if Isa hadn't have ran outside.
............
I knew about the texts too, because after the divorce news came through and I went with Alice to get Isa, she told us everything. Didn't mean that Megan knew, since she is explosive as anything and Trent found out way before her.
Or, at least I think that's what happened. The wreckage of our lives makes it hard to keep up with the details sometimes, I'm sorry.
