Megan was bursting with happiness when she told me how her mothers won full custody.
And I was happy for her, but the question was how she would break the news to Isa.
Which was how, as a way of distraction, I stopped in Dunoon to go get ice cream.
I don't even know what I was thinking, but I had a lot of money on me from my dads repeating to give me some each day without talking to each other about it.
Weird, but we didn't have any money problems.
But somehow I ended up with a whole load of Oreo ice cream sandwiches.
Got some pretty freaked out looks from the other young people there, but I was feeling too confident to care.
I don't know why. Maybe because I drove all the way over to Gourock and now I would be going another twenty or so miles with my crush.
But Megan was either not fussed about my excessive amount of treats, or it was about the whole having to tell her siblings about what was happening with custody.
I didn't want to ask.
We were driving in silence for a bit, and I worked my way through my amazing Oreo snack.
Meg finished hers first, wiped her hands and proceeded to stare out the window.
I was terrified, half of my mind screaming at me to pay more attention to the road despite there not being any cars and the other half trying to think of anything, really just any one reasonable thing, to say.
"So," Megan started, "why are we really going on this so-called road trip?"
The way she said it, like I wasn't worth her time. And I didn't know if she even hated me at the time, I was still thinking she was hot.
But I caved anyway.
And after that, I wanted to get back on the road quickly so she wouldn't have an excuse to kill me.
.........
The chair on the hill was freaking huge, I almost gasped out loud.
Instead, I settled for saying "That must be one big chair."
"Oh definitely," Meg answered, and she was grinning.
Any other doubts or anger had been flattened, even if it was temporary.
With her help and directing, I made the turn up the kind of steep path and stopped in front of a large gate.
Beyond that was a shed, with a quad bike and several layers of wood.
Megan jumped out the car and raced to open the gate, practically jumping up and down on the spot as I drove through.
Getting up the hill was easy, even if the sounds of barking filled my ears.
The main house, small but adorable on the outside.
The bigger house looked great, even if it hadn't been completed yet.
I laughed while getting out the car, watching as Meg was being attacked by two lovely springer spaniel dogs I recognised from many of Isa's Instagram pictures.
Speaking of, she came down from the building best identified as a workshop with Alice.
And if she was upset, it didn't show.
Meg led the way up to the summer house, where we would be sleeping.
It was amazing up there, being so close to the woods and having the greatest view.
