My name's Emily Morris, I'm 25 years old currently living in London. I guess you could say I live a pretty boring life, but it's a good one. I live alone, I have a 3-year-old golden retriever named Duck who I love more then life, I order takeout more times then I like to admit, and I have a strange obsession with Legos. Call me a child I don't care, the stupid things hold a special place in my heart.
I work for a social media agency that typically works for different football clubs all around England. Usually lower tier clubs and grassroots but hey work is work and I love it. A few weeks ago, I was contacted by the head of social media for the Lionesses about potentially doing some work for them ahead of the woman's Euros. Being an avid football fan myself I immediately said yes. All that was discussed in the meeting was that I was to go to St. Georges Park where the team trains and take photos and videos of the girls in the lead-up to the tournament. If all goes well, then I'd travel with the team going from stadium to stadium and document the journey.
It's currently Tuesday June 14th 2022. I begin packing my things to head to St Georges Park because tomorrow the Euros roster gets released and it's my first day on the job. For some reason I have this sudden overwhelming feeling of nervousness. I've done this a million times before so why am I just now feeling this way? I know it's the Lionesses and they're what you call a "big deal," but they're just football players right?
Remembering one of my best mates is on the team, I decided to give her a call, hopefully settling some of these nerves.
"Hey Stanway! Still being a nuisance I assume?" I jokingly said knowing I would get a rise out of her.
"Don't forget I could still kick your ass if I wanted to." Georgia Stanway, she always was the jokester of the friendship.
"Yeah yeah whatever. So guess who has the pleasure of taking pictures of your stupid face for a whole summer?" I asked.
"Omg no way! I'm so proud of you! You still know my good angles right?"
"Stanway, you don't have any good angles, that's why I love you."
"Watch it Morris, I could get you fired before you can take the first picture."
"Okay fair point, but I am coming to St Georges Park tomorrow so you'll have to be nice to me."
"No promises, I'll have to sleep on it. Listen I have to go to training now but let me know when you arrive and I'll come say hi."
"Sure thing, take care."
Georgia Stanway and I basically grew up together. We've been best mates ever since I can remember. We were practically neighbors and played on the same football clubs. Obviously, she went in one direction and I went in the other. I guess you could say there's always been some amount of jealousy but she was born with a gift of being an incredible player and I was gifted with the ability to take good pictures. I don't see her too much anymore because of her recent transfer to Bayern, but I'll never not be proud of her.
With nerves settled a little bit and some puppy cuddles from Duck, it's time for a good night sleep and then it's off to St. Georges Park in the morning.
Let me know what you guys think, I don't know the exact direction of this story but bear with me. If you have suggestions please let me know. Don't worry, Duck might go along for the journey.
