I was in my own little world, trying to do my job but also trying to interject myself with the innerworkings of the team. As I felt that touch on my shoulder, I looked over and it was none other then Leah.
"You take your job pretty seriously huh? You ever just take a breather?" She stated.
"Just trying to do my job, you guys make it pretty easy." I replied
With that, she slid into the seat beside me and took out her headphones. I could tell she was stressed so I collapsed beside her and just looked into her eyes. For some reason I could tell she just wanted someone to talk to.
"Are you ready for the first game, seems like everyone is ready to go,"
"Yeah I mean we've had all our team meetings and we've gone over all the prep but you never know." She stated with a slight disappointment in her eyes.
"I happen to know that you guys are going to crush it and there's absolutely nothing to worry about." I replied.
"It feels like the whole world is looking at us to win this thing and I don't want to let anyone down." She said and it felt like the energy just shifted.
I know she just needed a friend so I tried to give her the speech of a lifetime.
"Listen, I've been around you guys long enough to know that you're more prepared then you'll ever be. You've already made the nation proud and no matter what happens you've made an impact, not only in England but the whole world. All you can do now is give it everything you have and go out there and prove to people that you're the best team the world has seen. Who gives a shit if this is the Euros. Go out there acting like this is the world cup."
Lead dropped her head and moved her hand so it was over my thigh. Not knowing the appropriate response to this, I put my hand directly over hers and just waited. She slowly put her head on my shoulders and I simply waited.
"Thank you, that helped more then you know." She stated with her eyes quickly shutting.
"I'm always in your corner." I replied
I could feel her falling asleep so I let her rest. At that moment I didn't care if anyone saw or all the questions I would receive, something about this felt so right.
