The worm that had, moments ago, been trying to block Olivia's escape route was now opening up the flower on its end. The flower itself opened up to reveal maggots. Maggots that, Sunny noticed, weren't maggots at all, but what a maggot may look like if they were not only made exclusively from plant matter, but if they had human faces. Human faces whose eyes, nose, mouth, and ears were sewn shut with medical thread. Faces who were covered in blood, and what appeared to be some kind of disgusting dark-green wax. Sunny quickly found the source of the green shit. In the middle of the flower, in place of a pistol, was a slightly-oversized human ear. The ear was so infected... No, that's not the word, Sunny thought. So hideously, impossibly red to the point of turning black. The ear itself wept tears of the infected wax that was an exaggerated shade of green. The earworm angled itself to where it was turned around, facing Olivia directly in front of her. Even from here, that sickly scent was permeating the air, more powerful than before, like the breath of some long-dormant demon who has just awoken from its millennia-long hibernation. There was bulging movement from deep within the ear canal. Like a hellish womb giving birth to something like Gary's fetus-creatures, Something was moving deep within that gangrenous, infected mound of flesh. At first, Sunny didn't know who the face belonged to. Then, it hit him. It was Alexia. And, Sunny perceived, she was smiling at Olivia.

Watch, they whispered to Sunny, but do not interfere. Not because you could save her, but because we wish to savor your horror the same way you mammalian things savor the taste of your meals.
