"No."

I jumped and spun around and there in a silver suit with raven hair as dark as night, his face was completely humane but his irises were shadowed like he had seen one too many things.

His eyes flicked over to me for a second before going back to my brother. "Stand up, Sander. A demi-god should not kneel before a mere mortal."

I let my power go of the chains and they clinked onto the ground. My brother straightened, he turned to me and smirked.

I gave him a weak one in return. for I had felt Saber draw his sword from its sheath and point it at my neck. I looked back at the stranger and jerked a little when I noticed he had moved closer without a sound.

His hand reached out and stopped inches from my face. Something flashed in his eyes, but it was gone too fast to tell what it was. He lowered his hand then looked up to the thrones and whispered, "She looks so much like you."

I furrowed my brows in confusion until it clicked, Khonsu. That was who was standing in front of me. "You're my-"

"Father? Yes, I am. It's nice to formally meet you, Phoenix." He finished my sentence, looking back at me. "I'm surprised that you figured it out so quickly."

"Thank you." I smiled, drawing my sword and knocked, Sabers out of his hand. I spun and placed the tip of my sword against his neck. "I suggest the next time you, place the tip of your sword against someones throat, you make sure they don't have any weapons on them."

I looked over his shoulder to see the guards stationed around the room come this way. My smile grew. I grabbed my dagger and flicked my wrist. The dagger changed into a sword. I held it loosely at my side. "You should tell your goons to back off before they lose one of their own." I whispered to him.

Saber gave me a look that could kill, too bad I don't die easily. But he signaled them off none the less. A hand touched my shoulder, I turned the tip of the other sword against my fathers neck. "Don't," I warned.

Khonsu looked completely unaffected of the fact of my sword against his neck. He looked down at it and used two fingers to push it away. I let him do it, knowing it would be no use to fight him.

"You know, that this is very unnecessary?" He asked, nodding to my other sword. I sighed, "Fine."

I lowered my sword but kept them hanging loosely at my sides. I turned my head to look at my brother. He smiled at me just before I saw the glint of a sword covered in blood go through his chest and back out. I watched helplessly as the body of the person who practically raised me fell to the ground.

That's when my heart shattered into a million pieces, Every piece shattering again and again. I dropped everything and ran to his side, knowing that I would be too late. I raised a shaky hand and traced his face, leaving a smear of blood behind, for I had fallen in a pool of his blood.

A shaky sob broke from my throat. Then there was screaming, so much screaming. I curled my body over his, sobbing, screaming, yelling. Someone tried to pry me away from his body, but I fought, I fought with every fiber of my being, screaming, "No! No, no, no, no! NO!

As I screamed the last word, my voice melded with a cry, a bird cry.

Soon enough, I lost my voice. I couldn't scream or talk. But I could cry. It's all I did was cry.

At some point my mother came by me and held me, whispering apologies in my ear as she did so. Khonsu had left some time ago, cursing.

I looked at my brother's face. He looked so peaceful, someone had closed his eyes, his smile was still there too. He looked like he fell asleep with a smile on his face, but never woke up.

He will never wake up.

 🗡🛡 🗡

I stayed by the body of my brother even long after everyone had departed. My mother came by multiple times asking if I needed anything, but I always refused. The thing that I needed was laying in front of me.

"Why?" I whispered, "Why did you have to leave me?"

I didn't expect an answer, but I wanted one.

I didn't look up even as a pair of black boots came into my view, I already knew who they belonged to. "What are you doing here?" I hissed.

"Your mother asked me if I could check on you."

"I don't need anyone to check on me. I'm not going to move." I growled, clenching my jaw.

He knelt down, "Well, too bad. I'm here."

I raised my head to glare at him as I snapped, "Get away from us."

He glared right back, "Not going to happen, Adorite."

I got up, completely ignoring that he hadn't said the nickname, "If it weren't for you, he'd still be here."

"You don't know that." He shot back, holding his hand up when he saw I was going to respond, "And neither do you, so be quiet."

I felt my hands shaking in rage as he said that, my power curling around my fingers. "Why?" I asked, remembering what my brother said a very long time ago about trusting others. He looked at me confused, "Why did you force me to come here? I never wanted to come and I was still torn between coming and staying. So why did you take me?"

He sighed, looking tired and a little defeated, "The queen, told me to bring you here no matter the cost."

My power disappeared at his words, there was no way my mother was so eager to get me back that she would do that. Lost in my thoughts I didn't realize that a guard came running into the room, panting.

"Captain, a dragon has entered through the walls." He addressed Saber.

I spun around, "what?"

"A dragon, your highness." He repeated. "A dragon has entered the castle grounds."
