Maddie's cry echoes in my ears. I knew for a while that they had been together, and it hurt to hear her scream.
The phone went silent for a few seconds then I heard a howl, her howl. I hung up knowing that she had shifted into her wolf form. I have a sinking feeling that they were mates. I blinked at the flood of light as Vashak adjusted so that he could bring his head around and nudge me in the side as I didn't respond to the light.
I placed my hand on his snout as I whispered, "I'm fine.".
He didn't believe me, but I couldn't bring it in myself to try and make it believable. They were watching me, everyone was watching me, waiting for me to make a mistake. I hate it, I hate them.
My mother probably felt it through our bond or saw it on my face, she turned to Zhoron. "Help her to her room," He dipped his head as he walked my way, June stopped him, "don't touch her, not it you want your hand cut off or to be turned to ash."
Come with me. I said, I don't know why but I did.
I will, just will me. Vashak comforted me.
My brows drawn in on themselves. How?
Just do it.
But if I hurt you-. I swallow, not able to finish the sentence.
I'll be fine.
I closed my eyes and took a breath, seeing Vashak shrink in my mide's eye, and him curling around my neck.
It was only when he voiced that he was fine, that I opened my eyes. Addison was watching me with something that I don't even try to interpret. Saber was in his fighting stance. June was looking at me with sorrow and empathy. And Zhoron...Zhoron was analyzing me his eyes latching onto mine, his ember and silver eyes glowing with curiosity.
"You can make him follow me," I said gesturing towards Iarwarin, looking straight at June. "But know this. I will never accept what you are forcing me to go through." I turned and started to walk in the direction of the castle. Not caring if he followed, I would find my way.
I was near the doors when someone grabbed my arm and drew me to their chest, I drew my dagger and placed it against Zhoron's neck, I didn't dwell on the electric shock I got from where he touched me. "I suggest you let go of me." I said as the doors opened and hundred guards ran out lining up on either side of us.
Shock flared through his eyes but it was covered within seconds, I doubted it was even there. "I won't move until you let go of me." Slowly his grip lessened, and he backed up a bit.
I put away my dagger and turned to enter the castle, but who I saw on the steps made me freeze. The king stood in front of the doors. I clenched my first, trying to fight the flood of power that answered when I saw him. I glared at him, looking him straight in the eye, ignoring the feeling of another curling around my mind. I didn't care if he could see all my fears, he would see my pain, but even more so my rage, "Where is June?"
I pointed back in the direction of the court yard. I swallowed my disgust as everyone went to their knees as he passed. I lowered my hand and bowed my head that was all he would ever get from me, I refuse to bow for the man who murdered the only real family I had left.
I raised my head as soon as he passed, not realizing sooner that I had been the only one who had looked him in the eyes. I watched his every step and when he was out of sight, I turned the other direction and ran.
Zhoron tried to stop me, but not even my brother could have stopped me from getting out. My power was a living, raging thing inside me, I needed to find a place, I could get rid of it. Unlike the king, I refuse to hurt innocents.
I didn't go to the waterfall, I cut through the forest, jumping over all the fallen trees, and all the dryads by the streams. I wouldn't stop.
"Griffin." Zhoron yelled, "Griffin, stop."
I pushed myself to go faster, but he caught up and forced me to stop. "Griffin stop. Just stop."
"Why? Why do I have to stop?!" I screamed, the birds flying out of their trees.
"You're going to kill yourself."
I shove him off and look around at the clearing, "I'm not going to die, just from running."
His stance was relaxed, but anger was rolling off him in waves. "Based on how fast you were running towards the Fields of Sorrow, you do. Because, no one has the right to step foot on that field, even the dragons avoid it."
"So?"
"So?" Zhoron's laugh held a maniacal edge to it. "You're joking right? Because there is no way you have no idea what Zade would do to you? Anyone who steps onto that field, man or animal, would be drained of any life, their whole life encensee would be sucked out of their body and transferred into the earth."
Be gentle. Vashak chided as he knew exactly what I would say next.
"Two things Iarwarin." I sniped prowling closer, "One, I'm not a man, I'm a woman. Two,-"
"Seriously? That's what you got out of that?" He commented.
"I wasn't finished," I hissed, letting a wave of my power go, trying to curb it from exploding. "Two, I just got here, I have no idea what any god would do to me or where anything is."
"Okay fine, but we should really-" Zhoron was cut off by a dragons roar, and it wasn't from Vashak. Drawing my dagger, I look at Zhoron.
"Run?" I ask.
"Or fly." He responded, gesturing to my wings.
I cring inwardly, "Yeah... about that- I actually don't know how to fly. I never caught the chance to learn."
