I was out of the room with my blades back where they belonged before anyone could do anything. I followed the commotion to the front grounds.

I pulled my dagger out, watching the sky. A roar sounded in the distance, shaking the foundation of the castle. The roar filled with, anger, pain and grief.

I smiled, as a speck grew bigger in the distance. Until a wyvern taller than 30 feet landed in front of me. His head lowered and he looked into my eyes. As he did the world fell away, I was only me and him. There was something familiar in his eyes, something that I must have forgotten over the years. Something, that clicked as I raised my hand and laid it on his muzzle.

🗡🛡.🗡

A blurry face above me, his eyes as bright as the moon. His hair, short and cropped. Wearing a black t-shirt.

Someone came and stood beside him, "He's hatched."

The man turned to her, "What's is his name?"

"Vashak, Lord of Shadows."

"Him or mother?" He asked, Turning back to me.

"His mother had a vision from their god."

He nodded then left. The woman stood over me, reaching her hand and tracing my face. "There are so much things you have to learn but so little time, my Pearl."

The man came back and held a dragon twice the size of me, slowly he placed the newly hatched dragon beside me. Relishing the warmth that came from it, I curled my self closer to it, and it curled itself closer to me.

🗡🛡.🗡

The clinking of metal echoing behind me, brought me back. I looked into the wyvern's eyes, whispering his name, "Vashak"

He nodded his head, I have been waiting for a long time to see you again.

"Your highness you mustn't be by this beast." The guard that had run into the hall was behind me. I looked up to the castle walls, Saber was standing with a team of archers,  bows drawn, waiting for him to signal permission to shoot.

How long will it take for everyone to realize that dragon hide is impenetrable, even the wing membranes were impenetrable. "How long do you think they wait there before the shoot?"

I have not an inkling about that, but if it does happen, I will protect you till the end of my life.

I turned back to Vashak, and asked something, that I will regret for the rest of my life, "Vashak, I must ask you, beg you to go."

I will not.

"You must," I pleaded, "Saber is smarter than you think. He will stop at nothing to hurt you. And I must not lose you when I just found you."

A flash of defiance flashed through his eyes,  I will not go, not when you need me.

I stared into his eyes, pleading but also commanding. Slowly, the defiance in his eyes faded and he slowly rose to his full height. As he straightened, I gave him one thing he wanted to do, "Give them hell."

He looked back down at me before, breathing fire at the archers. Some ducked behind the wall but others were not so lucky. They fell over the edge as they burned and I relished their pain, and screams.

My whole life everything was taken away from me and now. I could take something from them even if it was something small. "You know, you burning some of our people will do nothing to affect the king."

I scoffed as I turned around. "You act a lot like a warrior than what you are."

Drayco leaned against the side of the doors with his arms crossed, "What do you mean?"

I walked up to him, sensing Vashak watching me, "You. Drayco Saber are a coward."

I turned to walk away but Saber grabbed my arm, stopping me. Vashak growled a warning. Saber looked me in the eye, his blazing with anger, "Say it again. I dare you."

I stared into his eyes, my power rising with my anger and said nothing.

"Say it." he growled, his grip on me tightened.

I looked down at his hand, then up to him. "Coward, coward, coward, coward. Coward."

Something snapped in his eyes then, he spun me around and forced me to look across the yard to Vashak. "If you look across there, you'll find the reason you're still alive. The reason you're still breathing." He snarled, "The moment I can I will tear your world  apart, piece by piece."

I laughed, a dry hollow sound. "You can try but not much will hurt me, now that Sander is gone."

"I doubt that, Adds." He replied dryly, letting me go. "You just found your dragon, I doubt that you're going to be okay with losing him."

My anger sharpened, "You touch him, Saber and I will skin you alive."

"I'd like to see you try."

I smiled. I didn't give him a chance to fight back as I flipped him over my shoulder and put my knee to his chest as he landed on his back. "I will try, and I will enjoy every minute of it."

"You will do no such thing, Adorite."

I sprung up and turned to face my mother. Shame burned my cheeks. I refused to feel this way but still, it happened.

My mother looked more like a queen than she did when I first got here. Her shoulders back,  her head held high, her crown of silver and diamonds shining on her head. She screamed royalty.

She walked to me with a predatory gait, "If I find out that you have done or said anything like this again, I will make it personal that you find your way into the dungeons."

I lowered my head, the burning in my face going down to my chest and neck. "I'm sorry, Mother."

She stopped in front of me and lifted my head with her first two fingers, making me meet her gaze. Her eyes softened, "I will lead you back to your rooms, you must change. Your brother's funeral begins in two hours."

My heart lurched, the monster inside of me that had announced itself when my brother died, recoiled and dyed. She looked over my shoulder, to Vashak who had took it upon himself to stand closer to me, "He will stay with you."

She grabbed my hand and squeezed it understanding my shame, my sadness, "Now lets go."
