SUNGHOON WAS busy scribbling with his ink feather on what was assumed to be a quite an important letter as he put his ink feather down for a second and slumped against his chair, no doubt that everyone in the castle was in a festive mood since it was the coronation day.
But, for an emperor like him, he never had the time to be in a festive mood.
He closed his eyes for a brief second when his ears perked up at the sound of the door opening.
His eyes were fixed on the visitor as she gave him a soft smile and seated herself in front on him.
"Shouldn't you be spending some time with your wife right now? I'm sure she'd feel quite saddened that you're not there with her", his mother's tone was always filled with such careness that she'd never raise her voice against her only son.
He shook his head as he picked up his ink feather and set his eyes down on the letter, "I'm quite sure that she feels delighted to know that I'm not there with her, we're sworn enemies after all".
His mother lets out a sigh as she suddenly snatched the ink feather with her fragile touch and took his hand in hers, "Learn to love her, my son. She's a woman who's capable of loving you and I hope that you'd do the same for her too", her voice was weak almost as if she was pleading him which stung his heart a little.
"Our meeting was a damned mistake, mother", he spoke in a low voice, her hand soothingly massaging his rough ones.
"The worst of the meetings can lead to an unexpected care and love, she might not remember you right now but trust me, son, she'll be the one to stay by your side", the elder woman reassured him.
Sunghoon let out a weak smile, "Why do you have so much faith in her, mother?"
She smiled at her son's question as she hummed which meant that she was wondering what to say, "You and Raeul remind me of the time when your dad and I got married; we loathed each other so much that even the priest had to stop his speech because we kept bickering in front of him", she chuckled as her memory of their wedding was as fresh as ever, "our status were the same but we still had this sworn enemity between us, our parents basically forced us to get married and we had no choice because our choices didn't matter, we married because our parents saw the benefit in that; the kingdom's benefit to be exact."
She paused as she took a look at her son who was attentively listening to her, "At our wedding night, we kept arguing because we had to sleep on a single bed and none of us were ready to sleep side by side nor did we want to sleep on the floor so we ended up creating a barrier with pillows".
