Chapter 111 – Sacrificial Lamb (2)

Eden urged Adam several times in quick succession to make a move.

Time passed and with each passing moment more of the extended AIs were infected. Although so far only a few of the AIs that were Eden's eyes and closer to Eden's core system had been infected by the virus, the three Super AIs had formed a new mode of AI operation that posed a great threat to Eden, making it impossible for it to effectively break through their defences to reverse the infection and take back control. Even its behavioural patterns were being predicted to some extent, which was something that had never happened before.

The three AIs on Zhang Xun's side had found a way to use the extended AIs they had infected to form a wider network, further affecting all the AI systems they could connect to. Although not as fast as infecting directly from the satellites, the spread was much wider.

The situation was still under Eden's control, however, the successive cases of AI disobedience were causing serious disruptions in human transportation, finance and other aspects of life and causing panic which gradually started to cause problems for Eden.

For two hundred years, the ordinary world's trust in Eden was based on the belief that it would never be wrong, never be defeated or controlled by any other force. The damage caused by this loss of control and confusion was far more serious and far-reaching than it seemed.

Zhang Xun was sowing seeds of doubt in humans and sowing distrust in the AI. Coupled with the rumours circulating on the internet about a super virus that could destroy Eden, these seeds of doubt would soon take root.

Plus, Eden knew what Zhang Xun was looking for. Once Zhang Xun hacked into the core AI of the institutions that had worked on the nanobots, it would cause major disruptions to its plans to upload humans.

Adam delayed until Eden started calling in the legions of robot soldiers in North America before he finally sighed and said, "Release Tidal Wave."

As if he had been waiting for these words for a long time, Jian Mo's eyes shone with excitement. Tidal Wave was a nanobot upgrade that he had secretly started working on with Adam before Zhang Xun was imprisoned, the world's smallest robots that could be used as a weapon at the macro level.

Originally Adam had wanted to work on it with Zhang Xun, but Zhang Xun had begun to have doubts about Adam and Pan by then.

Jian Mo knew that Zhang Xun was very special to Adam, not only because of AIs' special obsession with their administrators, but also because of some very human-like obsession.

He thought he could inherit Adam's special treatment for Zhang Xun once he got Zhang Xun's seat, but realised he had been too simplistic in his thinking. Although Zhang Xun had now become a complete public enemy of the world, he still felt some inexplicable envy.

"Adam!" Fernandez, who had remained silent, finally couldn't help himself at this moment and he glared at Adam with a deadly stare, saying word for word, "Are you really going to kill him?!"

Adam knew who Fernandez was referring to and there was no crack in his expression, as calm as a mask, "It's something that has to be done. Even if I don't do it, Eden will do it. At least by doing it myself he has a chance of survival."

(note- IM SO MAD)

Fernandez didn't see this as any sort of justification at all, "Or you could just not do it!"

"You're asking an AI not to do its job?" Adam tilted his head sideways slightly, hiding a bit of imperceptible dismay beneath his calm exterior, "You're second in charge of the Lab, an accomplished mechanic, you should know that what you're saying means nothing to me."
