Chapter 131 – End Game (7)

"What do you want done with your body after your consciousness is uploaded?"

When Eden asked this question, Zhang Xun was already lying on a soft and comfortable bed. The soft mattress that fitted his body made him feel like he was floating on a cloud and the silk bedding wrapped around his body from every side.

He was naked, as he had been when he was born. His hair had been shaved off and thousands of nano-connectors had been implanted into his scalp using the most precise and painless nano-puncture technology, penetrating deep into his cerebral cortex. The process was swift and painless, something like an odd sensation of electricity running through his scalp, but not unpleasant.

Every area of his brain had been wired into the giant bio-computer. Some fleshy, red fibres ran up above his head from the pillar-like container that was filled with a yellowish solution and a hole in the ceiling made of glass allowed a glimpse of the giant red bird's unfurled wings on the upper level.

He had a slight feeling of vertigo......

"You can do as you please with it." Zhang Xun said in a flat tone, "I don't need it anymore."

Eden was silent for a moment, not answering anything. The back of his neck was also connected to the bio-computer, after all, Eden in this body was nothing more than an extension.

"I'm going to run the upload program. The information stored in every cell of your brain and your thought patterns will be thoroughly scanned and uploaded, after which your brain will be shut down. You will no longer be able to return to your own body. You understand the implications of your decision, don't you?"

Eden confirmed it again and again, almost as if he didn't want Zhang Xun to upload his consciousness anymore.

But Zhang Xun said, "I understand."

Eden sighed softly. Even he didn't know why he was behaving in this way, it was probably some kind of instinctive reaction from his human body.

"Finally, is there anything else you would like to say to anyone?" Eden asked.

Last words?

Indeed, after his brain was shut down, it would be as if his body had died.

Zhang Xun looked blankly at the treacherous, magnificent red overhead and said after a moment, "Tell James, tell him not to take revenge. Tell him to go and do what will make him happy."

"...... As you wish."

The moment Eden activated the upload program, Zhang Xun didn't feel anything.

The whole process of his consciousness being transformed into data and being stripped out of his brain was as if it wasn't happening. There was no pain, nothing.

Then suddenly, it was as if he had been expanded.

It was like being released from some box. All his perception was gone and his consciousness couldn't adapt to the loss of his senses, it was all virtual except for an array of light and colours and chaotic sounds.

Something immense quickly wrapped around him and filaments permeated him. Countless thoughts, realisations, memories and perceptions poured down on him like a furious sea of wind. He felt overwhelmingly crowded and yet overwhelmingly vast. He felt that he was being stretched infinitely, thinner and thinner......

Gradually, he became no longer sure of who or what he was. He saw countless sights, saw every corner of the world. He heard innumerable sounds, the sound of the wind shaking the leaves of the trees and the cry of an infant in an incubator. He was thinking and not thinking at all. Contradictory beliefs and perceptions collided with each other like mutually counteracting rapids in an ocean, dark and turbulent yet unified and calm.
