Chapter 10

"Bye, Clarence," Reuben says as he swims closer towards the surface.

As Reuben keeps swimming, his leg suddenly gets caught in a rope and he isn't able to swim fowards. Meanwhile, above the water, Gordon celebrates as the trap starts to move, and he sees Reuben's blue glow.

"Kraken ahoy!" Gordon yells. 

Reuben continues to struggle against the ropes and ends up getting more tangled and not being able to move.

"Seriously?!" he yells frustrated.

"Davey, hard to port. Full power!" Gordon yelled as he loaded up the gun with a spear and pointed it down at Reuben.

"Fly. Fly, me beauties," Gordon says as he shoots it at Reuben, who barely misses it.

"Let's get a closer look at ya," Gordon yells triumphantly.

"Laser eyes, go! Laser eyes, go! Laser eyes?" Reuben said as he tries to do it, only for it to not work.

"Hold him steady, Davey," Gordon says as he shoots another spear into the water. 

Luckily, a hand grabs the spear, stopping it from hitting Reuben and a person cuts the ropes that were holding Reuben.  

"Bit of a spicy tuna, aren't ya?" Gordon yells as the boat sways.

"Wait. Is that...?" Reuben says.

"The new guy," Caspian says as he float above Reuben.

"And reinforcements," Arista says as she floats next to Caspian.

"Hey," Caspian waves.

"Caspian? Arista? H-How are you even down here?" Reuben asks in shock.

"Because we're motherflippin' mermaids," Caspian said as he spun Arista around the water, revealing they're tails.

Caspian had a turquoise tail with red on the tips of his fins and Arista had a purple tail with an ombre white at the fins.

"I figured I owed you an underwater rescue since I kinda, sorta, 100% got credit for yours," he explains.

"Time for the Gordon special. Surprise. It's a bomb!" Gordon said as he threw it in the water.

"Um, we should get going guys," Arista says as she turns to see the bomb in the water.

"Or, like, die. Your call," Caspian adds as he looks at Reuben.

Reuben looks at the bomb, then at the merman and mermaid and nods his head and they all swim away.

The bomb goes off and Gordon's boat flies into the air and he falls back into the boat.

"Don't say it, Davey. You're such a naysayer," Gordon complained.

"Okay. I still can't believe you're both...," Reuben tried to say as the two swam in front of him.

"A ten with a fin? A fish come true? A merman? Ooh, I can't believe I can finally have two friends to share things with," Caspian says happily.

"Super sea besties," Arista adds as Caspian nods in approval.

"Look, Caspian, Arista, thanks for what you did back there, but I started this day thinking that my biggest issue was prom. Now, I got a whole lot more going on. So I just need to go home, get some sleep and pretend this day never happened," Reuben says.

"Look, we just thought we had a lot in common, but if you're gonna be salty about it, then bye-bye," Caspian says swimming away.

"Bye, Reuben," Arista says sadly as she pats his arm and follows Caspian.

"B-bye," he musters up, and when she's out of ear-shot, "Girl I'm too afraid to ask to prom."

As Arista swam away, she looked back at Reuben leaving and accidentally knocked into Caspian. Caspian looked at her angrily and she just scoffed at his face.

"What did I do now? I'm sorry, was my hair not perfect enough?" she asks sarcastically.

"No, your hair was fine. Your attitude however, that was the problem, sweetheart," he says grabbing her chin to face him.

"Don't call me that. And it's not my fault, when I first met him I couldn't utter a single word. So I had to act all hopeless and shy," she explains.

"You didn't tell me that. Wait a minute. Do you, like, him?" Caspian asked laughing a bit.

She doesn't answer and then he burst out laughing.

"Don't tell me you actually like that fish brained kraken?" he asked as she tries to swim away. 

He grabs her arm harshly and he pulls her close to his face as his smile faded and he became serious.

"Cause if you did," he tightening his grip on her arm, receiving a small yelp from Arista, "We would have a serious problem, Arista."

"Of course I don't," she says, yanking her arm back.

"Good. Don't forget, they're the ones that outcasted us," he reminds.

Arista swims away and is then seen walking through the town, eventually walking into her house. 

She throws her bag in the corner and walks up to her room. She huffs and falls on her bed, and grabs her pillow and screams into it. When she is done, she puts the pillow aside and looks at her desk and sees a photo of her and another person. It was her sister. The two were making goofy faces and smiling really brightly.

"Don't worry, Cass. It'll all be worth," Arista says as she turns and falls asleep.
