Part 4:Reassurance

"I was out surfing,it's not a big deal mom..."I said not in the mood to argue.
"Yeah,well you could've let us know where you were instead of worrying us!"
She yelled "Mom,can we not do this infront of everyone.Please" i said with little emotion."After you're comp,we need to have a chat." She said in a calmer tone.I then walked past her heading to the room to get my things and go,I can't let this break my focus.As I was about to slip out of the house I heard a car honking and Elo's voice calling for Wren.I don't know what I was thinking when I headed over to the car where baxter was standing.
As I approached him,he looked confused
"Uh...Can I maybe get a ride with you,I know your sister doesn't like me and summer but I can't deal with my mom right now." I said in a desperate tone.
"Yeah,yeah of course.Come on." He said "Thank you so much bax..."

As we drove to the comp I texted Summer to let her know where I was.
When we got there we were all in the tent busy with our own stuff.
I was hanging up the short sleeved wetsuits in hopes of letting the time go by.I snapped out of my daze that I didn't even know I was in when I felt a presence that I recognized to be baxter standing by my side,as he put his arm loosely around my waist looking down at me.I instantly got the craziest butterflies in my stomach not used to this type of affection. "You okay?" He asked quietly "Yeah I'm okay" I reassured him "Are you ready for your heat?" I asked as I leaned into his touch wanting more of it."Yeah." As he said that my face instantly lit up.
"Good,cause your gonna do amazing." I told him grinning up at him,he stared at me with confusion and a hint of curiosity in his eyes.The attraction I felt toward him was so strong it actually felt weird.When he finally realized that I meant it he put both of his hands around my waist as my own hands went around his neck.He then pulled me into a hug,both of us tensing at first getting used to the newfound affection as we both melted into a meaningful hug.It wasn't a huge deal,I mean to other people it was just a hug but I was freaking out about it.You would've never guessed that bax would be so affectionate an gentle. Just as we pulled away from eachother Summer called my name "Skylar!" She said throwing her arms in the air as she had a angry or sad expression on her face,I couldn't tell...
"Why didn't you take me with you when you left?" She said almost sounding hurt.
"I'm sorry Summer,I just really needed to leave I didn't think,I'm so sorry."
I said "It's okay,you're gonna win your heat today alright!" she said changing the topic "Yeah I will,you too okay?!" I said as she nodded,we just smiled at eachother for a few seconds until the announcers called in the first wave of the U/18 girls."I gotta go!" I said turning to bax as he gave me a reassuring smile,I then went to the starting point.As the horn went off I sprinted into the water.As the waves started coming I decide to let the first one go.
I waited for the right wave...When I saw the fourth wave coming I knew I needed to go for this one.
As I was paddling,I stood up, gaining my balance. I started doing turns until the wave was coming to an end... I thought about doing an air reverse. Ugh, if I really want to win, I might as well do it.
As the wave started to settle down, I did an air reverse and I stuck the landing perfectly. As I got to the shore I heard my score being 8.8.
I heard the announcers saying "Skylar Torres going to quarters with an 8.8" I saw summer and poppy running toward me. Just as they reached me, I almost fell back because of the impact from the hug.
The rest of the team congratulated me.
"You did it, Sky," I heard bax say as I turned around. "Yeah!" I said excited."I knew you could do it, " he said, grinning at me."Thanks Bax,seriously" I said as I touched his arm gently.
His eyes shifted from my eyes to my lips. Shit he's doing it again... He's making me feel these unfamiliar feelings,and I don't understand it."5 minute call for U/18 women heat 2" We heard the announcers say, and then we broke eye contact. It always seems like we get interrupted right when something might happen."I'm going to go talk to bodhi,I'll talk to you later?" I asked him "Yeah..." I smiled at him as I walked over to the girls.I could hear Bodhi talking about Tuscany,but then Elo interrupted "Gang,why do I get the feeling that you're all getting distracted?" She said as the boys came over."Listen this is our last chance before Nationals to see some of your interstate rivals in action,yeah?"
"Yeah,spoiler alert. They're better than you guys." Bax said in a sarcastic but serious tone as I let out a soft laugh/scoff,nudging him gently.He grinned at me as Elo started speaking again "And not to mention all the big sponsors are here watching.So every comp,every heat is an opportunity. Don't waste it." Just as she finished the siren blares."Let's go guys you've got this!" I said to the boys,mainly to bax.

Just as they started I could see Bax catching the first wave. He was doing great but I couldn't help to chew on my finger nails as i watched. Just as he did his last turn he did a 360,and he landed perfectly,completing it. "Yes Bax!" I shouted not really caring about the look my sister was giving me.
A few minutes later griff got a wave,then this other dude.After them, Bax got his second wave,he was doing amazing.I smiled to myself as I heard the announcers say he was through to the quarters.

I was sitting on the log where the boards go against when I felt someone tap my head with their hand.I was confused,but when I turned around I saw bax standing next to me behind the log."You did amazing,well done" I said looking up at him. "Thanks,how are you feeling?" I looked at him slightly frowning "Why do you always brush off questions or compliments like that?" I said turning serious "What do you mean?" He asked "Like...Why do you avoid questions or people asking you about yourself or your problems? And don't lie to me I've noticed it." I asked him genuinely "Cause you wouldn't want to hear about it,and I don't like talking about my problems." He said flatly as my eyes softened "Bax,people saying good things about you isn't bad,and of course I would want to listen." I said as I touched his arm,I've realized that I did that alot,it was almost like it was my thing with him you know. "I'm okay,sky...Don't worry about me." He said with a look to just leave it.I looked at him "So you're mom's already standing on the beach." He said changing the topic again...
"She's going to watch Summer's heat?" I asked myself quietly. "Yeah" He said "Huh" I said while slightly scoffing. "So she can watch summer's heat but not mine?" I aksed myself but I said it outloud. "I'm sorry sky." He apologized to me "Oh no,it's fine.She did say if Summer won her heat we can stay,that'swhy she's watching her." I said brushing it off. "So,if she loses you'll get dragged back to the states?" He said slightly confused. "Yeah...so the pressure is on,I can practically feel the anxiety about to burst out" I said worried.
"She'll win don't worry" He said touching my hand that was at my side.
I smiled up at him as I put my hand that was previously on his arm,on his cheek,my thumb quickly caressing his cheek.After a few seconds I took my hand away and started walking stopping when I noticed he was just staring at me and not following me. "Come on we gotta go watch." I said as I grabbed his arm and started walking toward our tent.Just as we got there the girls started sprinting into the water. Summer was waiting for a wave. "She's waiting?" I said,Ari probably gave her a tip...
"Hey I'll be right back" bax said "okay" I said not really paying attention.
As Summer caught a wave she was doing good until she fell in,Shit I thought to myself,I looked to Wren only to see her give a huge smile to Bax...His facial expression not matching hers,I immediately knew wren did something.
My attention was pulled away from her when I saw summer running towards us.Poppy,running to get a kit,I went over to help her. Realizing the fins from her board came off.
As we ran back to summer,Ari started fixing the board.Summer then went over to mom...I saw her arguing with my mom,I decided not to intervene.Then they both were smiling and summer was going back to the water.
She won the heat.She won!

Later we were all talking and Molly asked Summer to do a shoot for her and asked me,wren,poppy and Bodhi to join.I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited about it.I then caught site of bax,seeing him already looking at me as we smiled at eachother...

Hi guyss I decide to like make the heats different idk why but I did.

Ahhh bax and sky are getting closer!!!

I really am trying to make the chapters longer but I'm struggling cause the show is pretty short,but I'm going to make more chapters with sky and bax and then ones with the like show plot.
