Soleil

As soon as night came, I carefully took my backpack out from under my bed. I said goodbye to everything I had ever known in here. But I needed to know. I needed to know what the ocean smelled like, how people talked and walked, how to dance, what the stars looked like from a clean window.

Mother took her time to fall asleep. She lathered her lotions, took a long shower, brushed her hair 100 strokes, and then watched a little television. I worked on my homework, even though I had no intention of turning it in. I had no intention of ever coming back honestly. I made us some tea just to try and get her to fall asleep. Mother made me sing to her in her bedroom. I used cloth paint to doodle on her curtains.

My nerves were spiked as soon as her eyes closed for the night. I halted my singing and waited a moment. I waited for her to ask my to keep singing, to keep her entertained and wait for her to fall asleep but the lack of order made me think she had truly fallen asleep. I went into the restroom and collected a few random things in there before making my way back to my bedroom. I slowly closed my moms bedroom door. I made a mad dash across the room to the window. I pushed it open with a creak and peaked through. Many times I had wondered what people sounded like. Only during really early mornings or late nights was I allowed to open the window, without mother knowing of course. Any time between that I was scolded and made to clean the floors.

I looked down directly at the cement floors and took a deep breath. I looked to my left, and then to the right. There was a building beside me. A tiny cottage. That should do it. I put one foot and then the other over the ledge so I was sitting down on it. I used my arms to help maneuver me to the left and I dropped down onto the roof of the cottage beside me. I gasped as I felt the ground beneath me. I know it was actually a roof, but I had never touched a ground other than the tower's before. I used a rather large stick from the roof to try and close the window. The less mother realizes when she wakes up, the longer it'll take for her to realize I'm gone. The more time I'll have to escape. The more time I'll have to be free. I move across the roof to a pole from a building beside it, and use it to slide down. As soon as I get to the bottom I gasp again. Real dirt! I've never touched dirt before!

I didn't take too long focusing on dirt knowing I had a whole night of travel. I needed to find a faster route of exit. And I know exactly who to go look for.

Helena Westergaard. There were people like Mal who had her main group of four. Evie, Carlos, herself, and Jay. And they ruled over everyone because of their parents. And then there were people like Uma who took care of territories. Uma and her pirate crew took over the sea shore and the dock. Then there were people like Hades and Dr. Facilier who ruled the underground.

Helena ruled everything else. Her father, Hans, was a simpleton. A jerk to put it plainly. She was the on you'd want to go to if you needed help. A getaway. Of course, there wasn't much room to run on an Island with an invisible magical barrier, but somehow she always made a perfect getaway. It was her castle I needed to find.

The alleyways were dark and mysterious. I wonder what it looked like before Mal and Uma left for a better life. What it looked like with all the lights and villainous laughter. The castle fortunately, only took me thirty minutes to find. It was the biggest building on the Isle. Which wasn't saying much since there wasn't a whole lot going on anywhere else.

The castle was a steely grey color and loomed over me terrifyingly as I walked up to it. I knocked on the wooden door, once, twice, three times. A loud echo boomed around me. I waited a few moments, but no one came. I figured she too decided to leave with everyone else and mentally cursed, I needed to find my own way out.

Before I could leave, the door ahead of my was pushed open and lanky woman was on the other side. "What can I do for you?" She leaned against the wall coolly. I stared in awe. Even her hair was cool. She was dressed in a simple black dress, a tiny crown on her head. "I.. I am uh.."

"In need of a getaway?" Her eyebrows raised challengingly, she nodded. "Come in," I was whisked inside by her arm. "Oh!" I gasped. My jaw stayed dropped once I saw the inside. It looked, well there weren't words to describe how well decorate her castle was. "It's very nice in here." I complimented.

"Thanks, imagine if I was a queen!" She smirked. "Imagine how well I'd decorate!" She sniffled. "Well, you came here for one thing, so enough chit chat! Let's get straight to it. You need a ride, I got a ride!" She pranced over to an empty wall and pulled on a string. Down came a very long list of things. "I got a boat, you like boats?" She smiles, eyes wide. "huh, huh! I have horses, canoes, submarines, a balloon house? Who came up with that?" She scoffs. With a shake of curly hair, she turns to me. "Pick your poison!" I'm pulled even closer to the sign. "Uhm... Do you have a bike?" I asked slowly. "A bike?" she blinks. "Do I have a bike?" She suddenly smiles. "I have a motorbike? Does that work?" I nodded.

"Great, now let's talk payment." She pulls the string again and the sign disappears. "uhm..."

"See typically," She guides me away from the sign and pulls me into another section of the castle. "I trade an escape for some sort of luxury. But I have every luxury. I have every crown you could think of. I have all the jewels on the isle. Everything is mine here, especially after Uma left... I only ask you one thing... Bring me back a crown from Auradon prep. I promise you'll see me soon. And I want a pretty one." the lights turn on, and a door opens up. A few different color motorbikes are on the other side of the garage door. "I can bring you a crown. I don't know when I'll see you next-"

"Don't worry 'bout that sugar. I'll sort it all out. I'll see you soon!" Helena pushes me out of the way, a pair of keys are dropped in my hand and the garage door slams down in front of me, barely missing me by an inch. "Alright... See you later?" I bite my lip and turn around. She didn't even tell me which one is mine. And where did she have time to grab keys?

I click the button and a loud squeak comes from one of the bikes. It's sparkly, red and black. My most favorite colors. She knows her guests so well. I should have thought this through better, I don't know how to ride a motorcycle. Much less a bicycle. I should've used a boat instead. Or maybe something that won't kill me.

I mount the bike and push the key into the ignition. After a second, it sparks to life and the roar of the engine scares me. I glance down at the key chain, in gold it says 'return to helena'. Aww Cute. I smiled. I pushed the bike backward, the feeling of the motor running making my whole body shake. I slowly revved the engine and pushed off down the alley. "Oh gods, oh gods!" I exclaimed as I crashed into trashcans. "Sorry!" I called at a couple who were making out as I almost ran over the guys leg. After a little more wobble, I finally was able to stabilize myself.

I stopped as soon as I got to the opening right before the bridge. I stared ahead of me. There was so much unknown. So many thing's I'll regret not knowing about. I turned and looked back. There were so many things I had grown to love here. My mother, painting, cooking, watching television and working on homework. I kicked off the ground and started across the bridge.

I'm sure I could do those thing's and even more in Auradon. My heart was breaking for running from my mother, feeling like Rapunzel was the worst feeling ever. My mother had everyone leave her. I added another person to the list.

I took a deep breath, smelling the salty sea air, ahead of me was the glowing lights of Auradon, behind me was the only person I had ever loved. Above me, the stars molded together creating a constellations. It was like a blanket of glitter guiding me home.
