-Rei's POV-
"(Y/N)?" I knocked on the door unhurriedly.
I'd come over every afternoon after I completed the tasks for the day – researching, catching Pokemon, and working on the pages of the Pokedex – and was eager to see her face once more after a quest working on finding a bigger Buizel than that of one of the other Galaxy Team members stationed on the back gate.
I wait a moment longer. Usually, she came to the door since she was feeling well enough to be out and about. "(Y/N)?" I called her name again. Was she sleeping and couldn't hear me?
There was no response. The only sounds were the citizens going about their day, the whish of Staravia soaring overhead, and the lively chatter of children racing through the worn-dirt streets. Normally, she would've been here by now.
Finally making up my mind, I open the wooden door. I close it behind me, quick to scan the room for anything out of place.
Almost instantly, I see her sprawled on the floor, and a wave of deja vu hits me like a brick to the chest. (Y/N) lays crumpled against the floorboards, dressed in the bizarre garb I found her in. "(Y/N)!" I yelp, rushing to her side.
I lean over her, eyes wide with alarm, flooded with memories of the day we first met. She was passed out on the beach near Jubilife village, coated with the pale sand of the shoreline. We were a lot younger then. I shook her awake, fearing the worst, only to find she lost her memory and had no way to find out where she was from. (Y/N) grew up beside me ever since, and had never recovered her lost recollections of her life before she arrived in Hisui.
"Lucas...?"
I blink. My gaze darts to (Y/N) who stirs slightly, groggily opening her eyes, then intensely staring at me. "I-I'm not Lucas. Who is that? (Y/N)?" I help her sit looking for injuries or something.
"Lucas...?" (Y/N) murmurs again, still locking eyes with me, confusion clouding her (e/c) gaze.
"Who are you talking about? (Y/N), my name is Rei. What's wrong? What happened?" My tone rises, and I'm severely concerned.
"Wait... oh," she mumbles, expression betraying inner turmoil and confusion. "Right... Rei... my mind is going in two directions at once right now, sorry. I mistook you for someone I knew."
"Someone you knew?" I gasp.
"My memories are fuzzy, but... they're now there. Everything. My father, my childhood, my position in an organization I dare say I'm not proud to be associated with..." She pauses as if reminiscing about something bittersweet. "Everything has come back to me. There was a boy, Lucas."
I slowly nod. "You mentioned him."
"He looks... just like you. I suppose it's safe to assume that he is your future descendant. Perhaps a great-great-great grandson or something." (Y/N) averted her eyes and a stiff chuckle escaped her lips. I'm stunned, speechless, jaw-slack gaping at her in astonishment. "It makes me wonder..."
"About what?" I managed to regain my voice.
She exhales. "A lot of things. Who'll you marry? It's certain that you will, otherwise Lucas wouldn't exist. Will I return to that world in the far future? Do I have any desire to do so, to begin with?"
"You wish to leave us?" I whisper, lips quivering.
"No, not in the least. " She assures me kindly, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Either way... I realized there's no going back."
I don't know how to respond to that. Her hand drops to her side, and her eyes wander, reflecting on her reminiscent recollection of times years ago in her world. Finally, I said, "Can you tell me about where you came from?"
