Alexandra is 5 years old in this chapter

It was one of her and Obi-Wan's first missions together in the war. They were rarely on missions together, and that was usually with Anakin or the Bad Batch. The mission had been going well, until a group of Separatist droids attacked and caused a cave-in, separating Obi-Wan and Alexandra from the Clones.

"Generals!" Cody shouted through the wall of rocks between them.

"Cody! Treat the wounded, we're fine!" Obi-Wan called back.

Alexandra could barely hear them. Her ears were ringing and she could feel the blood dripping down her forehead. When she tried to talk, her voice felt alien and distant. As the ringing faded, she realised that Obi-Wan was propping her up.

"What's our status?" Alexandra mumbled.

"Cody is getting the wounded back to camp and Waxer and Boil are trying to get through these rocks without crushing us," Obi-Wan answered.

Alexandra tore her sleeve off and tied it around the wound on her head. Kix had taught her a better way to deal with wounds, but right now she couldn't remember it.

Obi-Wan helped her to her feet. "How do you think they found us?" he asked.

"Not sure, maybe if I could see, I'd be able to help," Alexandra answered. Her vision was still fuzzy, but it was slowly clearing up.

"It'll come, just give it a minute." Obi-Wan was kneeling next to her and helping her stay steady on her feet.

Finally, she was able to see properly.

It was dim in the cave, but her eyes had already adjusted. To her right was a massive wall of rocks, beyond which she could hear Waxer and Boil trying to figure out how to get it down. The rest of the cave they found themselves in was unremarkable, to say the least. A small glimmer of light appeared to come from a small crack a long way up from them.

Alexandra wandered through the space. It wasn't really that big but thanks to her being quite small it felt a lot bigger. There were no little cracks in the walls and her holomap had broken in the cave in. Obi-Wan stayed in place and watched her pace.

"I already did a sweep," he said.

"A second pair of eyes doesn't hurt," Alexandra answered.

"A good point. Find anything?"

"Nothing but rock and a little pinprick of light up there." Alexandra walked over to a rock and sat down in front of it.

Obi-Wan joined her. Neither of them expected to get out of there anytime soon. So, they decided to fill the silence...

"So, how do your assignments get decided?" Obi-Wan asked. He had been wondering this ever since the Bad Batch got semi-assigned to Alexandra.

"Well, some I decide, others I get given and others kinda just happen." Alexandra half-heartedly pointed to the different pieces of armour she was wearing.

"What do you mean, some just happen?"

"Well, sometimes I'm just in the right place at the right time, or wrong time, depending on the mission."

"Examples?"

"Geonosis, at the very start of this war. Enough said, I think."

"Ok, fair enough. So what was this one?"

"Chosen. I wanted to see what was down here and it was better than my other option."

"What was the other option?" Obi-Wan was now more attentive than before.

"Wading through a swamp alone on some backwater called Dagoba."

"You sure this is better?"

"Definitely. I'd much rather be stuck here with you, Obi-Wan, instead of wading through an endless swamp alone."

Obi-Wan laughed. "Yeah, well, I'm happy you're here."

For the next few hours, they continued to share stories and interesting tidbits as they waited for the Clones to get through. Neither of them felt strong enough to use the force, let alone lift that many rocks without causing the whole cave to collapse.

"So, how long do you think this war will go on?" Obi-Wan eventually asked.

"I'm not sure, I just want it to be soon, I don't know how much longer I can hold on to the light..."

As she said that the wall finally came down on one side.

"Generals!" Cody called through. "Get through, quickly!"

Alexandra and Obi-Wan ran through as the cave collapsed behind them in a cloud of dust. Everyone was safe and sound soon enough. Now, to find those separatists...
