CHAPTER FOUR
The Illuminati Will See You Now
The group stood in front of the building. Dr. Stephen Strange gave his life defeating Thanos. We express external gratitude to Earth's mightiest hero.
"Gave his life defeating Thanos?" American questioned.
"Yeah. See? We're not all bad." Stephen responded, getting a look from Mara.
"Way to be humble, dad." Mara mused.
"If Other You's dead, who's Master of the Sanctum?" America wondered, then the door creaked open.
Rosa had her hands ready to do a spell while Mara looked curiously.
"Oh shit."
"You know him?" America and Rosa asked in unison when the Stranges' eyes narrowed at the figure.
"Yeah." Mara answered shortly.
"Mordo. He was actually the first guy who let me into Kamar-Taj." Stephen explained.
America smiled, "oh, great!"
"And then he snapped and dedicated his life to trying to kill Mara and I." Stephen said calmly.
Rosa looked at Mara, then Stephen. "And you're just calm about this?" She asked, resulting in Mara's shrug.
"Oh. Great." America said in a not-so-happy tone.
838 Mordo stepped out of the building and walked closer to them. "I always suspected this day would come."
"You did?" Stephen raised his eyebrows.
"Yes. Because you always suspected this day would come." Mordo replied, pausing, "my brother." Then he hugged Stephen, confusing Stephen, Mara, and Rosa. "Come in, and tell me everything about your universe." Mordo laughed, inviting them in.
Stephen turned around to look at the girls. "You go on red." He whispered.
"And you're quite formidable too, it seems. A Multiversal traveler. And you, a witch. Well, thank the stars you brought Doctor Strange to safety." Mordo said as they sat down.
Rosa didn't touch the tea. She knew a tactic when she saw one.
"Well, just 'cause we jumped ship doesn't mean we're safe. Our Wanda has the ability to conjure demons and monsters to attack America in other universes." Stephen explained.
"So she has the Darkhold?" Mordo asked.
"Oh, you know of the Darkhold?" Stephen inquired.
"Oh, yes. We have a Darkhold in this universe too. I guard it here in this Sanctum. We would never risk a weapon that dangerous falling into the wrong hands." Mordo said.
"Damn right."
"But if your Darkhold is anything like ours, I'm afraid she can do far worse than just summon monsters to come after you here."
