Ch. 5, Planning

Luz's POV

It was now the end of the day, and I now had to go meet Amity and Scarlet at the Sunny Ridge Cafe to meet these two "detectives" Amity said she knew.

As I shove my stuff into my locker, I turn around and rush out of the building and to my vehicle. But just as a got to my door, Zander called out to me. "Luz! Hold up!"

I sighed, and tried to not be rude. I didn't want to talk to him, especially after the warning Scarlet had given us. "Oh, hey Zander. What's up?"

"Nothing much, I was just wondering if you would want to maybe hang out later?" He asked. He put on that fake innocent smile again.

"Oh, I would like to, but I already have plans. So sorry." I mentally cringed at how I sounded. I sounded like some 'pick-me' girl from a movie.

"Oh, that's OK. Hope you have a great day then." He smiled again a ran off, waving behind him as he went.

I just quickly hoped in my car, and shivered. "Uh! I hated that!" I exclaim to myself. I looked at the time on my watch, and then quickly pulled out of the parking lot. I was going to be late if I didn't leave now.

I was about halfway there, when I had the gut feeling I was being followed. I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw a dark red car behind me.

I decided to take a few random turns, and on every one, the car followed. "Just great" I mumbled. I picked up the ear piece that Scarllet and I used to communicate, I put it in my ear. "Scarlet, you there?"

I waited a bit, and then she finally replied. "Ya, I'm here. Where are you?"

"Right now passing the mall, there's a red car following me. Want the license plate?"

"Jeez, not even a day back and you're already getting followed by god knows who. Ya, give me the license plate, maybe Amity's people can trace it."

I shook my head with a smile at her remark. "OK, the plate number is J-K-1-9-7-H." J reply, looking from my mirror to the road, back and forth.

"Got it. Just do what you usually do. Get them off track and then meet us. We don't need any 'unwanted' attention during this meeting." Scarlet said. She sounded tired, probably from a long day of school and now probably worrying about me.

"Will do. Be there in a jiffy." I quickly start going the route I had planned in my head. I went past the Family Restaurant, and then pulled into a gas station that was just a block away from the Cafe.

I got out and went inside. Going to the counter, I gesture the cashier to lean over, and I whispered the code to go in the back. We had places like this everywhere just in case we were followed or needed a quick escape.

The cashier nodded, and led me to the back. There, I waited for about five minutes before leaving out the hidden door, and started walking to the Cafe.

I cut through Mrs. Birtha's back yard, and walked the last bit till I was stepping through the doors of Sunny Ridge Cafe.

"Luz! Over here!" I look to my right and I see Amity and Scarlet, along with two other people. They looked like they could be twins, and they had the same green hair as Amity.

"Hey guys. Sorry for being late." I walk over, rubbing the back of my neck in embarrassment. Scarlet probably told them what happened, but it was still a bit embarrassing.

"Oh don't be sorry. I told them what happened." Scarlet replied while gesturing to the chair.

"OK, now that we're all here, let me introduce everyone. Scarlet you may remember them." Amity said. Scarlet nodded with a slight smile.
