"his heart raced at the sheer level of scrutiny he was under. each belittling and unnerving stare seeming to intensify the symptoms of his fear, from the uncontrollable shaking of his hands to his uncoordinated feet."

This time, you dreamt of the second time you experienced fear.

You were seven and ill-experienced. It'd been a rainy day that day, rain pounding like bullets onto your shared umbrella with Muichiro. He cautiously held your hand, never failing to walk you to and from school constantly. You never minded this of course, finding it generous that he never let you walk alone.

Crossing the nearly empty streets, you failed to notice the car speeding at you. It's headlights shined in your face and blinded you as you screamed in horror, feeling a push and tug at your rain coat before you tumbled onto the sidewalk.

Muichiro hugged you close, gasping in terror at the thought of losing you. The rain was now soaking his hair as he put his hands over your eyes, refusing to let you see and hear anything that was happening around you.

The car swerved, and you could hear the smallest scream, before it crashed into a stop sign. Each airbag in the car deployed as the driver fell unconscious behind the wheel.

"D-Don't look!" He almost screamed as the bloodied glass shards falling at the car, the driver's motionless arm laying out the window. "Let's get candy after this, o-okay?! On me! I'll even help you dry off! Just don't peek!"

You nodded, embracing him for comfort as you trembled from the adrenaline.

Anxious bystanders rushed onto the scene, helping the limp and bloodied driver out of the car as law enforcement immediately arrived on the scene, wheeling the driver off into the ambulance.

As the rain pattered onto your hair and raincoat, Muichiro picked you up and groaned, his meek child arms unable to carry you without aching.

But he carried you all the way home.

The driver survived, barely, considering the engine nearly exploded. Miracles really do happen after all.

You logged this journal in your diary as well, humming a tune to yourself as you braced yourself for what you were planning. Writing while walking through the streets wasn't exactly ideal. All I need to do is persuade him to just act flirty with me in class... That's all.

There needs to be something in return for him, though.

He needs a motive.

A car came racing towards you, and you gasled and jumped out of the way almost immediately. The puddle it hurt nearly soaked you in water as it swerved and struggled to earn its control back, before it sped off into the distance.

You sighed in relief.

You didn't exactly want to relive that dream.

--

"Just think about it: what do you want to be?"

"I told you, I have no fucking clue." You deadpanned. "Muichiro, I need to ask you something."

He innocently tilted his head to the side, letting his pen rest on the table. "Well, ask away." His curious, akin to a doe's expression faded and changed into an annoyed one.
