"but this recurring nightmare seemed to never leave her sight, constant images of that day emerging over and over again."

The interrogation was lengthy.

"I feel horrible..." You spoke, holding a com0plimentary tissue to your lower eyes. "... I've been constantly blaming myself for what happened, considering this whole thing happened right after I broke it off with him. Sometimes, I can't help but wonder if I was the straw that broke the camel's back..."

Your weeping had the law enforcement's hearts panging, a female cop sending a remorseful look your way before saying: "Come on, it's clear that she's grieving Arakawa right now. Besides, a girl of her stature and strength couldn't have possibly landed a hit on him."

"It's just..." The primary officer sighed. "... There's no way that this kid could've thought all this out perfectly so that he'd fall to his death right after impaling himself." You took good care of wail even louder at the mention of this gruesome picture the two of you had painted, blowing your nose into the tissue and letting the tears stream down your face. "I'm sorry, L/N. You are dismissed."

The three words you'd been wanting to hear.

You'd done it.

You'd gotten away with murder.

"A few months back, I was assigned to tutor Y/N until the end of the year due to her unsatisfactory grades." Muichiro stated. "But... we couldn't get too much studying done the following days after she broke it off with Jiro. Now, I'm afraid her performance will continue to deteoriate..."

The officer nodded. "Witness reports state that you and Jiro shared a very unpleasant relationship. Could you elaborate?"

"Typical kill yourself and other stuff like that, and it wasn't rare for things to get physical. I know that I lack in physique in comparison to him and didn't want to risk getting hurt any further, so I never fought back." He answered truthfully. "I know plenty of people who'd unfortunately made an enemy out of Arakawa, and their cases aren't too far off from mine."

"Come on, look at him." One of the other cops hissed. "He couldn't land a finger on the guy. I'm sure it must've been one of his crazy friends who'd fucked around a little too much with one of his throwing knives."

And Muichiro was dismissed.

--

"It's ironic."

"What is?" Muichiro took a long drag of the cigarette in between his fingers and let his body lean onto the railing of the porch on his house. The scenery of overgrown shrubbery that came in colors of green and yellow wasn't pleasant, but it'd have to do. "The fact that we killed someone?"

"Well... that too..." You moved to scoot next to Muichiro's figure, paying no mind to the musky scent of tobacco that followed him. "But, the fact that we ended up together again because of this mess. You've spent your entire life shielding me and now we're back because of you shielding me. It's unfair."

"Life's unfair. That's kinda the point."

"Not that." You smacked the cigarette out of his hands, letting the ashes and the paper fall to the ground as he yelped in betrayal. "You must've seen some really messed up shit throughout the years that I never did. Maybe that's why you're so numb to everything."
