7.The city that never sleeps

With every step the bag on my back got heavier. We've been walking for hours and it wasn't exactly a 'stroll in the park'.

" How much further." The old dude complained.

Chase adjusted his bag and continued walking. " A minute closer because you literally just asked that a minute ago."

An laugh escaped Ally lips.

"What's so funny about rude children. I think they would be the death of us."

Chase chuckled." Possibly..." Chase stopped. " Guys..."

"Yea?" We said in unison.

"Welcome to the city that never sleeps. Welcome to New york." He had a huge grin plastered on his face.

I always wanted to go to New york. I would've been happy but giving the circumstances you see why I would be uneasy.

Glancing around saw a rusted sign greeting us just like chase did.

" Let's go fine a proper place to settle now."

Building were crumbled. The smell of rotting flesh was everywhere and there was no other living things in sight.

" You would think a city as big as this might have at least a back up plan." The old man said as he stepped over debris.

What did he expect. A town with water and food with extra protection. My hands tightened around the straps thinking about it. I still hadn't ' coped' with the pain as chase said.

A cough came from Ally. " yea sure .... And am i the only one that smells burning.

Instantly I sniffed and nearly choked. Something was burning. " I smell it to."

The map once again was in chase face. " Let's keep moving up. Whatever it is we better stay away. We don't want any unnecessary trouble."

The deeper we went the more damaged everything got. And the more uneasy we felt.

The smell of smoke and the odor of rotting corpses isn't helping either. My foot hit a brick knocking me out of my thoughts.

What the... I could've sworn i saw something run. " Guys did you see that?" My voice was shaky.

Ally had her gun ready. " I thought i was the only one."

This time the thing i saw cams running. A little girl!

" SHOOT IT!" The old man boomed.

Thats when the little girl dropped in front of us. Her clothes were ragged and she was dirty.

She looked up at us with tears in her eyes. " PLEASE help me! I can't find my dad. He promised to come back."

"How long?" Chase squatted next to her.

" i..I don't know. A few days. I thought he wad with y..you." Tears came shooting out of her eyes. " I don't want him to be dead!" A strangled cry escaped her.

My body started feel light as i felt a pierce in my skin. I looked down to see a piece of red and my eyes closed.....

The sound of water dripping filled the dark room. My body ached. I tried to move but i was tied. What?!

My eyes tried to scanned the room. Then i realized i was blindfolded. Practically blind.

"So you're up." A voice said. It sounded so inhuman...so emotionless.

" I won't hurt you... Well that is unless you cooperate."

I swallowed. "Who are you?"

Something came close and i felt a breath on my ear. "Lets just say I'm someone you don't want to fuck with."
