I looked around. Trees just got taller and i had no clue where i was. And night was coming.

"Fuck!" I kicked a tree anger coursing through me.

I'm lost. No food or shelter and night is coming fast!

I thought of the hunger games how they slept in trees. So that's what I'm gonna do.

My fingers wrapped around a branch as I pushed myself up. I repeated this action until the branches cradled me like a baby. It was uncomfortable but it had to be done.

These past day's been crazy. I've lost two people and the reason they're gone escaped. I got shot at with a arrow and i met this girl.

I met a girl.

I drifted off to sleep.

"We love you." My dad said as he held faith and my mom.

"I love you." Pulling the trigger i fired three shots.

My eyes flew open. My heart raced and sweat dripped down my body.

I eased myself up and something in the distance caught my eye. It was bright. It looked like fire.

I checked the ground and it was clear. I began climbing down, my foot missed and i fell. All the air left me for a moment.

I pushed past it and followed the light. As i grew closer the more screams i heard. And the more screams i heard the faster by heart beated.

I stopped as I realized i was walking on the path i did for months and i ran.

I arrived at camp. A little fire had started, kids were hurt. Some looked like from walkers and other look like weapons.

I crept down the pathway and looked for any sign of chase. I can't lose him again.

"Chase!" I half whispered and shouted.

A hand grabbed my mouth and pulled me in a abandoned barn.

I spun around ready to attack when i saw Ash.

"What happened?" I questioned.

"My camp saw two people from this group awhile back. And they shot at them with a arrow but they got away."

I nodded.

"So they eventually followed the tracks and was lead here. They thought of your group as a threat. Everyone is a threat." She sighed and pushed a string of hair behind her ear. "I came back to protect you."

"And my friend?"

"He's safe don't worry. I lead him away from here."

I gave her a hug. What was this feeling? It's been missing for years and now it's back and i think..I think I like it.

She sat against the wall. "You know, You're a lot of trouble for a boy."

I smiled. "You know, you're a lot of fun for a girl."

For a moment everything outside stopped. The world became normal again.

And when i heard Ash scream everything came crashing back.

Walker hands stuck through the wall pulling her hair. I ran to help her but she pulled out a knife and swiped at her hair.

She stood up. And started shaking. And tears fell.

I wrapped my arms around her. "I don't know if it's gonna be ok, but I do know i will protect you no matter what. I'll always protect you."

"Lets get out of here." She mumbled looking back.

I nodded and kicked open the door. We ran down the path i came.

A hand grabbed my foot. A boy was half eaten and he was crying. "You gave us hope. And look what happened. Hope killed us all!"

I yanked my leg away and caught up with Ash.

She turned and I followed. Branches scratched my face.

"Shortcut!" She shouted and I followed her.

I followed and the path cleared as it opened to the place Ash took me before.

Chase stood with fear in his eyes.

Ash stopped and put her hand up.

"I know you're out there!" A girl called.

There was a thud and a girl jumped from a tree. A knife was held to Chase throat.

Out of instinct i ran out.

"JAMES dont!" Ash hand missed me.

The girl stepped out. "Did she say james."

I nodded.

"It's me Rose. Ive been looking for you forever ."
