- You're too happy.
- I am happy!
- I know, that always irritated me a little, you know? - Kate said as they walked down the sidewalk of Main St.
Jasmine was returning from her morning run, while Kate was on her way to the diner to start her shift when the two met. And maybe Jamie's excited hug was a little too much, but she didn't care, the last few days she'd been too happy to hide it.
- Luckily for you, I don't care. - Jamie shrugged.
- Wait a minute. - Kate suddenly stepped in front of Jamie and placed a hand on her shoulder. - You kissed him.
- What?
- I'm shocked! Jamie, did you kiss that hot guy? - Kate, with her dark and short hair, widened her brown eyes and a huge smile grew on her face.
- I don't know. Maybe? - Jamie shrugged nonchalantly but the glow that had been in her eyes the last few weeks gave her away.
- Damn girl! You got him!
- Kate! - She tried to keep a straight face but started laughing as she removed the girl's hand from her shoulder before continuing on her way.
Two weeks had passed since Jasmine and Micah's first kiss. Two weeks with two more dates filled with kisses and some smiles from Micah. And Jasmine Davenport was walking on cloud nine. Despite feeling silly sometimes, she couldn't help the butterflies flying in her stomach when he showed up in town. She was happy and couldn't hide it, it was something bigger than her and she hoped that feeling wouldn't end anytime soon.
- You need to tell me everything! - Kate was excited and her high-pitched voice began to attract the attention of the few people on the street.
- Shhh. - Jamie tried to calm her down, - I'm not going to tell you anything.
- Why not? I need to know.
- Kate, you are too curious!
- Have you slept together? - Kate asked a few steps from the diner.
- Wow! Let's take it slow, okay?
- Come on, I can't believe you're leaving him waiting.
- Kate! - Jamie grabbed her arm and pulled her through the diner's wooden door, grateful that they had finally arrived. Jamie knew that Kate wouldn't ask any more questions inside with curious people listening to the entire conversation. She wasn't crazy, was she?
Hurrying to the counter, Jamie waited in line behind a man, and from the corner of her eye, she saw Kate quickly putting on her blue apron. Toddy was in the kitchen busy preparing breakfast for the customers and Lynn was at the cash register.
But before the man in front of her could order, Kate appeared and managed to get Lynn to go attend to a few tables. She tilted her body to the side so Jamie could see her and wiggled her eyebrows. Slippy.
The man placed his order and Jamie took a step forward.
- A hot chocolate with whipped cream to go, please. - She tried to keep her eyes on the shelves behind Kate.
- Something to eat?
- Nops.
- J.
- Kate, - she whispered and leaned forward, approaching the waitress. - There are people here.
- That's why we're whispering.
- My drink, please.
- You're very boring, you know that? - Kate said and went away to prepare the hot drink.
