SATURDAY, June 29, 2019.
The most expected day for Jasmine - and almost the entire city - arrived faster than she had imagined. So much had happened that month since the events committee meeting at the library, that everything made the days almost run over each other.
Jamie had woken up early that Saturday, but not to run like usual. Early on, she was already together with Nora and other commission participants, completing the last adjustments to the party. The opening would be at 5 pm, but Nora had asked them to finish everything before noon, so everyone could rest a little before it started.
Along with Florence Mackenzie, a high school girl, Jamie was in charge of the target shooting fairground. She was terrible at that game but it was a raffle so she had no choice. The two decided to split the period half and half, so they could enjoy the party for 3 hours each.
- Who will help you take care of the booth tent? - Florence asked as the two arranged the prizes. Jamie was on top of a ladder placing it on the shelves while Florence handed them to her, one by one.
- My boyfriend. - Jamie replied.
- I didn't know you had a boyfriend.
- Because he doesn't live here.
- Oh, I've seen him. - A girl, who was taking care of the next tent, spoke. - He is hot.
- Hey! - Jasmine turned her gaze to the girl, who was sitting on a chair filing her nails. That booth was a mess, Jamie noticed. - You should take care of your work.
- Relax, - The girl shrugged, without taking her eyes off her nails. - I'm just saying. And some people also talked about him at school.
- What did they say? -Florence asked, forgetting to give another stuffed bear to Jamie, who whistled to get her attention. - Where was I that I didn't hear any of that?
- Probably studying and not being gossipy. - Jamie murmured.
- I don't know, - The girl started to say. - Some boys commented on his car and that he has a lot of tattoos. Jasmine left a doctor for a rich bad boy.
- Shut up! - Jamie threw a small dolphin at the girl.
- Hey! - Nora appeared screaming. - No fights, there's a lot of work to do! Amanda, what are you doing? - She asked the girl who quickly stopped filing her nails and stood up.
Florence returned to handing out stuffed animals to Jamie who decided to ignore the brat. Micah isn't a bad boy. Well, he really is very different from Jordan, with his attitude and his tattoos. But he isn't a bad boy. Her eyes rolled back at her thoughts. If anyone sees us they will think that I am the same age as these girls.
Florence and the other girl, Amanda, started humming 'Let Me Love You' by Justin Bieber. And as she finished what she was doing, Jamie's mind wandered to memories of the last month.
The following week they swam in the waterfall, Jamie asked Micah to let her drive his car. At first, he was suspicious but after much insistence, he ended up quitting. Jamie had her license but she hadn't driven in years, and maybe telling Micah that as soon as she got into the driver's seat wasn't a good idea.
- Slow down. - He spoke repeatedly at every turn in the road. His eyes were a little wide.
- Relax! I know how to drive. - She tried to calm him down. But without success.
