Two Worlds, One Family

Prologue: Sixteen Years Ago: Part 2

A couple weeks later, the Cullen clan had fallen into a routine with their newest addition. Aurora was an easy baby, only made a fuss when she saw needed to be fed or changed or held. Any other time, she was calm as a cucumber. However, she wasn't showing any signs of vampirism so that worried Rosalie and Emmett just a tad. They knew that Aurora would have to live with the fact that her family were vampires and she was not. In the Cullen household, it was quiet except for the soft sounds of Edward playing the piano and Emmett and Jasper playing chess. Rosalie was sorting through Aurora's laundry with Alice's help. Alice looked up at Rosalie and said, "How was Aurora last night? Did she sleep good?" Rosalie smiled at her adoptive sister and replied, "She was okay. It took me and Emmett awhile to get Rory down." Just then, there was a soft noise coming from Emmett and Rosalie's room, causing Rosalie to stand. She turned to Emmett who had perked up at the noise and said to him, "I'll get her, Em." Emmett nodded and watched as his wife made her way up the stairs. Rosalie smiled to herself as she opened the door and walked over to the baby crib next to her and Emmett's bed. She looked down and said, smiling, "Are you up from your nap, Rory? Did Mama's baby girl have a good nap?" The blonde vampire reached down and picked up the baby girl, who made some happy noise at the sight of her mother. Rosalie walked over to the changing table and said, smiling at her baby girl as she changed her diaper, "You gave me and Daddy a hard time last night. Was that intentional, Rory? Hmm?"

There was a soft knock on the door, grabbing Rosalie's attention, and Emmett walked through the door. Rosalie smiled and said, "I thought you and Jasper were playing chess." Emmett grinned and replied, "We were and I won.......again. I came to check on you and Lulu. And to tell you that the others are going hunting if you want to go. I can stay behind with Aurora." Rosalie smiled and said, "She's being a little mischief maker. I just changed her diaper." Emmett gasped dramatically and replied, as he came over to his baby girl and wife, "My Lulu? A mischief maker? That can't be true. *He then picked Aurora up into his arms, causing her to make cooing noises* Tell Mama that you're just having fun." Another knock interrupted the family moment and the couple turned to see Bella at the door. Bella softly smiled at her two friends and said to them, "The others are going hunting. If you'd like to join, I can stay behind. I'm human so I don't need blood like you guys do." Rosalie glanced at her husband, hesitantly, and said, "What do you think, Emmett?" Emmett turned to his wife and replied, "It doesn't sound like a bad idea. Neither of us has been hunting lately since we had Aurora. Maybe it'll do us good to get away for a little bit." Rosalie looked down at baby Aurora, who was content in Emmett's arms, and said, "It'll be our first time of being away from her, Emmett." Emmett nodded and replied as he gave Aurora to Bella, "I know, Rose, but she'll be fine with Bella. Bella is more than capable." Rosalie turned to Bella and said, "Alright, if you're sure. There are bottles of formula in the fridge ready for her. She'll probably want to be fed in a bit." Bella smiled and replied, "I think I've got it handled, Rose. You and Emmett go and enjoy yourselves. Rory and I will hold down the fort here."

The trio, including Aurora, made their way downstairs where the others were getting ready to leave. Bella held Aurora in her arms while Rosalie lingered next to her. Carlisle turned to Rosalie and said to her, "You ready, Rose?" Rosalie sighed and replied, turning to look at Aurora, "As I'll ever be. I suppose that I'll have to leave her at some point." Emmett walked over to her and said, "She'll be okay, babe. Bella's here with her and she has our phone numbers in case she needs something. Let's go and have some fun." Rosalie placed a kiss on Aurora's forehead and replied, "Alright, I'm coming. Be good for Auntie Bella while Mama and Daddy are gone, okay, Rory? We love you; sweet girl." With that, the Cullen's filed out one by one. Bella then turned her attention to her niece and said, smiling, "What shall we do now, Ari, hmm? How about some tummy time? Would you like that?" Baby Aurora then cooed at her aunt, causing Bella to chuckle. She said, as she walked towards the living room, "I think you would." With the others, Rosalie walked side by side next to Emmett as they walked towards their usual hunting site. Emmett turned to look at Rosalie, seeing her lost in her thoughts, and said, "Aurora's going to be okay, babe. Bella's with her." Rosalie turned to her husband and replied, "It's not that I'm worried about. Don't you think that it's strange that we haven't heard anything about the Volutri since we moved here?" Jasper came up to his adoptive sister and said, "I, for one, am glad that they haven't caused any problems." Carlisle turned and said, "We don't want to jink ourselves now. They could pop around since Aurora had been born." Esme sighed and said, as Alice came up to her side, "Why continue talking about the Volutri when we can hunt? Hmm? We'll worry about that when the time comes." The family then split up in pairs, minus Edward. As they patrolled the ground, Rosalie and Emmett walked side by side, holding each other's hands. Emmett smiled and said, "You know, I've been thinking a lot about who Rory would be more like when she gets older." Rosalie chuckled and replied, "Oh, really, my monkey man? Who do you think Rory will be more like?" Emmett grinned and said, "I think she'll be a combination of both of us. With your looks and my personality, she'll be a handful." The couple then burst into chuckles and stopped in their tracks when they saw movement in the trees. At first, they assumed it was an animal so they bared their fangs, ready to take down their prey. However, when a person wearing a cloak emerged from the trees, Rosalie and Emmett's eyes widened and froze in their spot. The person walked towards them and said, "Rosalie and Emmett Hale-Cullen?" Rosalie nodded hesitantly and replied, her feistiness coming out, "Yes, what's it to you?" The person chuckled and replied, "So feisty. I was sent to investigate the birth of the newest addition to your clan, which I believe belongs to you."

The second the person mentioned Aurora to Rosalie, Rosalie growled protectively at the person. If anyone wanted to harm her baby girl, it would be over her dead body. Emmett placed his arm in front of his wife to keep her from leaping out onto the person and said, "Who sent you here? And who are you?" The person took off their cloak to reveal Demetri, one of the Volturi clan, and smirked. Demetri chuckled to himself and said, "Did you Cullen's really think you could have a baby without us knowing? You know that we have to investigate these things." Rosalie growled and replied, "If any of you think you can tear our daughter away from us, then you are very stupid and mistaken to think so. It'll be over my dead body!!" Demetri clicked his tongue and said, "If that is the way to do this, then it's your funeral." Before anyone could react, Demetri had sped off, leaving Rosalie and Emmett in their spots. Rosalie sped off back to the house with Emmett in tow to check on their baby girl. She wasn't going to allow anyone to harm her baby. When the couple reached the house, the others were already there and Esme was holding a sleeping Aurora in her arms on the couch. She and the others had thought that Rosalie and Emmett were going to want some to themselves so they pitched in with the baby girl. Rosalie rushed over to her adoptive mother and took Aurora into her arms, without muttering a word. Esme turned to Emmett, concerned and confused, and said, "Everything okay, Emmett?" Everyone watched in concern as Rosalie took Aurora upstairs, probably to her and Emmett's bedroom. Emmett sighed and replied, coming to stand next to Jasper and Edward, "Demetri showed up from the Volutri. He was sent to investigate Aurora's birth and we think they're going to take her from us. Rosalie's worried, as am I." Carlisle sighed and said, from his spot next to Esme, "We always knew they were going to show up one day. They are the leaders in the vampire world, son." Emmett looked at his adoptive father and replied, "I know, Carlisle, but they shouldn't have any reason to fear Aurora. She's only a baby, for Christ's sake! And as far as we know, she hasn't shown any signs of being a vampire. She's completely human." Jasper turned to his adoptive brother and said, "They don't know that, Emmett. All they know is that a child was born from two vampire parents. And they probably think that she was bitten and turned." Emmett scoffed and replied, "As if Rosalie and I would ever do that. If they think they can tear our child from us, they have another thing coming." Carlisle cleared his throat and said, "Or maybe it's time to think about what is best for Aurora. This vampire life isn't for her, Emmett. We have enemies around every corner and we never know when they will come around. Aurora's human, they'll probably use her against us." Emmett sighed and replied, "I'll talk to Rose and see what she says. I don't want to make any final decisions without her."

With that, Emmett walked out of the living room and towards the staircase where he made his way to his and Rosalie's bedroom. He knocked on the door softly before entering and saw Rosalie holding a sleeping Aurora on her chest. He smiled to himself and said, "Guess Auntie Bella must've worn her out for us, huh?" Rosalie chuckled dryly and replied, her voice breaking, "I didn't even ask Bella how Rory was. I just wanted to hold her after what happened." Emmett sat down next to his wife and placed his hand on Aurora's head, gently rubbing his hand over her fuzzy hair. He took a deep breath and said, "Carlisle seems to think that the only reason why Demetri was sent by the Volutri was because they seem to think she's an immortal child, bitten and turned by us. He says that maybe it's time to think about what's best for Lulu. She's not meant for this world, Rosie." Rosalie gasped and replied, "But, we'd never do anything like that, Emmett. How could we? Aurora was naturally conceived and born naturally. We don't know how or why but we don't love her any less." Emmett nodded and said, "I know, Rosie, but they don't know that. I think that maybe we should consider what's best for Aurora. She's a human, humans and vampires don't mix. She needs a proper human life where she won't have to question why she's the only growing up and we haven't changed a bit or why we have powers and she doesn't. She needs stability and somewhere where she can fit in." Rosalie looked down at Aurora, who was still sleeping, and bit her lip, keeping herself from breaking down. When she was first turned, she never thought that she'd ever have a chance to have a family. However, after she and Emmett married then miraculously had Aurora, Rosalie couldn't imagine not having Aurora in her life. But, she was willing to do anything to keep Aurora safe and give her best chance. Rosalie sighed and replied, "Alright, we can contact the agency tomorrow but I want to be able to say goodbye to Rory." Emmett smiled sadly and said, knowing this is probably tearing Rosalie apart, "We can arrange that, Rosie." Over the next few days, Rosalie and Emmett prepared to give Aurora over to the adoption agency. It was a painful process but it was for the best. They wanted an open adoption to whoever adopted Aurora so they could see her grow up, but they decided it was best not to have any contact with Aurora. When the time came, Rosalie and Emmett handed their precious baby girl to an adoption agent and said their goodbyes. Little did they know, their lives would cross sooner than they thought.
