Both men sprung to their feet the second they heard the crash and then a string of Russian curses following it.

Steve looked to Tony, "Natasha." He said and started to sprint off in the direction of the sounds.

"Does he have to run everywhere?" Tony grumbled jogging after Steve " Not all of us are super soldiers!"

When Tony caught up with Steve he was standing in front of a rather unfamiliar door marked with a sloppy spray- painted 'H'. Clint's room.

Reaching for the door knob he gave the door a push, locked, not surprising.

"Natasha?" He tapped on the door with the back of two of his fingers "Natasha you know you're in there, just unlock the door."

A muffled sniffle came from inside, was the great Black widow crying?

"Tony just leave me alone, I know Steve put you up to this. So save us both some trouble and go away." Natasha's voice sounded harder than normal like she was trying to hold something in.

Steve cleared his throat, " Nat, I didn't put Tony up to this, we need your help. Please."

A cold laugh came from the other side of the door.

"Seriously, you have the audacity to ask me for help? Clint's dead Steve, he was my best friend. Let me mourn in peace!"

Steve sighed " I really didn't want it to come to this." He reached into his pocket and pulled out the dog tags he had found on the firing range. " I guess I'm just gonna have to hand these dog tags over to Fury."

"What tags?"

Steve sighed, " I don't know. They have Clint's name on them and a hole through the centre.I found them behind a target in the firing range."

Tony stifled a shout " Steve what are y- humph"

Steve shove his hand over Tony's mouth.

"Shh! I've got a plan, just wait."

Within a second the spray painted door an inch and you could hear Natasha scrambling to release the chain,

"Steve wait! Give me the dog tags and I'll help you."

He grinned, " I knew you would come around."

Natasha sighed and took the tags from Steve, "Whatever. What do you want?"

Tony who had been silent for the last bit of the conversation looked down at the floor, "We need you to tell us about Clint."

"What do you mean tell us about Clint?" Natasha frowned then realized exactly what they had asked.

"No I can't tell you, sorry." Natasha reached to close the door but Tony stuffed his foot in before it could close.

"Natasha! Why can't you tell us?"

She stared straight into Tony's eyes, her face a mask of calm and thinly veiled anger. She was like a bottle of poison, on the outside she looked safe and normal, but on the inside she was deadly.

"Clint made me promise I would never tell anyone about him or his childhood." She said still staring straight at Tony " And I don't want to break my promise."

That was when Steve snapped.

"God dammit! He's dead Natasha! Clint is gone, he is never going to know if you broke your promise or not!"

A single tear ran down Natasha's cheek.

"I know." She said softly, leaning against the door frame. "I just... Clint never told anyone a thing about me I didn't tell him to, I don't want to break that."

Steve put a hand on her arm.

"We know you cared about him a lot and you want to mourn alone, but having that bottled up inside will only make losing him worse. We understand it's too late to save Clint, but we all need closure. So please, just tell us and we'll never ask again."

Natasha sighed, " Come inside, showing you may make it easier to explain this all. But somebody go get Bruce, I'm only telling this once."
