CHAPTER TEN
King Taeho was glad to see them. The group included both men and women. Each of them was skilled in one way or another. He was pleased to see their willingness to establish trade between both provinces. The king made sure that they had no trouble living here.
At that moment, one of the ministers spoke, "Your majesty, I have heard that Indian cuisine is diverse and tasty; it would be great if they could introduce us to some of them."
It seemed like a good idea. He recalled travelling to India with Prince Tejas and relishing the cuisine prepared by Rani Nanda herself.
He endorsed the notion. A few of them were permitted to remain at the palace. Additionally, they showed their readiness to participate in landscaping and other beautification projects. A fusion of the two cultures would be incredible. A group of twelve people stayed back. This group included scholars, poets, artists, singers, dancers, cooks, gardeners, and so on.
Several more weeks went by. The palace's appearance began to change. It was possible to see an incredible fusion of Indian and Korean styles. It improved the aesthetics. The king preferred to eat meals that included Indian cuisine. Some of the greatest crafts were produced through the collaboration of artists from the two provinces. The king was astounded by how well both groups got along. This should be the quality every human being should exhibit to avoid conflict among nations and sustain peace on Earth.
One day, as he was walking towards the palace's library, he noticed a young girl—probably a year or two younger than him—taking care of a kitten in the garden. It had injuries, so perhaps other animals had attacked it. She was actually speaking to the kitten. King Taeho thought it was amusing and decided to listen to her conversation. She has got to be an Indian. She spoke their language.
He could understand what she was saying to the kitten because he was fluent in the language, thanks to Prince Tejas from the academy.
She was scolding the kitten while displaying concern for it.
"Why did you go there? I am sure I have told you that there could be big cats and dogs there. See you, you poor thing. It's fine, and next time, don't you dare go there."
She treated its wounds and took it in her arms. She kissed the cat. The king observed everything with a slight smile on his face.
The woman suddenly turned around, only to find the king leaning on the pillar with his hand-held cross. She immediately bowed with respect and greeted him, "Greetings, your majesty."
"Good day, young lady. Are you a member of the Indian group that arrived?" He inquired.
"Yes, your majesty. I belong to the group," she agreed.
"Well, it was kind of you to treat that kitten. What is your name? And what kind of activity do you engage in inside the palace?" he asked.
"Your majesty, my name is Padma; I am a performer and a writer. I also teach children," she replied.
"That's great to hear. Being talented in many ways is indeed a blessing. I hope you will join the palace's official group soon. It would be a great asset," he insisted.
"Thank you, your majesty. It would be my honour."
Just then, a messenger came and informed him that Mother Lim Maya had returned from her place. King Taeho went to receive her. Seeing her again made him happy. She had recently experienced a lot, and he was aware of that. Happiness returned to the kingdom under the new king's rule. In order to see the province's accomplishments and developments, people from the neighbouring kingdoms would travel there. A few more months went by. King Yaswant received the good tidings of King Taeho's wise leadership. He became proud to see his greatness. He pictured how pleased his deceased friend would have been to witness his son's success.
A few more months passed.
