CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Upon hearing of her abrupt revelation, everyone was stunned.
She spoke as if she had won. "What, don't you believe? Let me tell you the stories you never knew. Your father—I loved him and wanted to become the queen of the province with all its riches and might. So then my palace sent a proposal to the province. But your father had already fallen in love with your mother. If I couldn't have your father, then nobody should. This was something I had planned for years. To convince others that I had changed my mind, I married another man. Lim Jae Wook's father was a fool who loved me, not knowing that I would kill him. Even the birth of Lim Jae Wook was part of my strategy to convince everybody that I was happy with my family. I poisoned him and became a widow."
Taeho's eyes started to well up. Prince Tejas saw this and came near to comfort him.
Rani Nanda asked out of her anger, "Now tell me, woman, did you have any involvement in killing my sister Hye-Jung?"
"Well, I killed her. If she were still alive, she would rule as the queen and I hated that. I once made a friendly visit when she was pregnant with Taeho. I offered her some exotic fruits, which contained slow-acting poison and left no trace of it. She died because of bleeding; it was the effect of that poison. I intended to kill the baby also, but even today I don't know how he survived."
Rani Nanda rushed over to attack the woman, but Prince Tejas stopped her.
"I killed everybody. And his father disagreed with making me queen of the province, and I killed him too. And about my son, that brat overheard my conversation with his enemy. I saw him in the woods but pretended not to notice. We caught him and his ladylove on their way back. He disagreed with becoming king and loved a girl from the lower class. I warned him not to disclose. But he was blinded by sibling love. I killed him and that girl with my own hands. Nobody ever knew about this. I teamed up with your father's enemy to kill you and become the mighty queen. But I never knew about this old man and his dumb daughter. If I did, I would've already killed them."
The whole crowd started to gasp in wonder about how a woman could become so cruel
Taeho abruptly yelled, "Enough of you. How dare you kill them all? You could have killed me instead. I would have happily offered it to you. You deserve no mercy."
