As we reached our two-story beige townhome, I looked at my phone to see that I had three missed calls from Aaliyah.

"Shit," I thought.

Samphany: Sorry, Liyah, something hella crazy came up, just call me after you're done with track practice. Luv, u

I'm kinda happy she won't be able to text me back immediately, because this situation still has my mind in circles. How will I deal with this girl for a whole semester without losing my cool? I mean why on earth was she put in the same class period with me.

"Are you trying out for a sport?" Naomi asked, breaking my thoughts.

"Nope," I answered.

Naomi looked at me, "Come try out for track."

"No, you know I don't like sports. I'm just a very fit person because I work out anytime I have time. Besides, why aren't you at track practice?"

"AP summer assignment isn't finished. Not only do I think you should run track, but Aaliyah even thinks you should. Do some hurdles; you'd be a total beast in a tournament."

"Not happening, so stop talking about it. Can we go inside?"

"Yeah, let's go inside."

We exit the car into the house, both going up the stairs and our separate ways. I begin to clear my newly-lavender painted room, taking the cloths from this morning off of my queen-sized bed and place my shoes in the shoe organizer. Trying to start new habits is seriously hard without falling back into old habits. I'm done at about 5:20pm and I swiftly put on my Nike workout cloths. Turning on some house music, you always need some music. By 7:00 pm, I'm about done with my two sets of lunges, squats, and pushups.

I opened my door to smell the aroma of fish. My mother must be home.

I walked down the stairs to our dining room area to see my mom, brother, and sister just sitting at the table.

My mom, who's sporting this ecstatic expression on her face, called out, "Hey, baby. How was your day?"

I walked over to my mother's side and bent down giving her a kiss on her cheek.

"Normal, as ever first day back. Somewhat, stupid. Literally, every teacher said my name incorrectly and you know I hate attention on me."

"Suck it up, Samphany Eve Xael. Your name is different because it's supposed to be, child. God, made us all unique. I wish you could see that."

I gave her a weird expression, "Mom, you went in too deep right now."

Pointing her index finger at me, "You kids of this generation need the deepness of me. As a matter-of-fact all you children need it to help guide ya'll kids to better prospects in life."

"I will have a great prospect in life," I declared, whilst sitting down.

Naomi jumped in, "Can we eat this Tilapia right now?"

"Sure, right after we pray," my mom answered.

Naomi and Nathan huffed impatiently.

"Don't get slapped," mom warned, with this almost deadly look in her eyes.

Their expressions instantly change.

"Now close your eyes, all of you," Mom commanded before closing her eyes, "God, we think you for this food for the nourishments of our body. Anything that happened today for my babies, don't let it trouble their minds and continue to guide them in a better path to be great adults in home and out of home. Amen, Lord. Dig in kids."
