The last thing Dabi ever expected to deal with was a baby.
More specifically, a baby girl bundled up in blankets on his doorstep.
Barely five months old, bright teal eyes stared at him as she cooed, sucking her thumb. Swaddled in faded pink blankets; drool dribbling down her chin and the little tuft of white hair plastered on her forehead, she gazed at him innocently.
Dabi slammed the door.
Opening it again.
The baby was still there.
"Where the Hell did you come from?"
The child let out a gurgle of laughter as she felt herself being lifted up. An envelop fluttered to the ground.
He picked it up as well, balancing the baby on the crook of his arm and ripping it open, reading whatever letter that was inside.
His eyebrows rose higher as his lips mouthed the words silently, a gradual look of frustration and pure reluctance forming on his face as he debated what to do.
"Great...you're my kid?" As though he thought the baby would understand his words, he spoke to her bluntly. But as all babies are, she didn't understand a single word, just grinning at him from a toothless mouth, "Do you have a name?"
Silence, except for her gurgling laughter.
"So I have to name her. Great. Just great." He muttered, kicking his front door shut with his foot and placing the child down onto the wobbly old piece of cardboard balancing on four buckets that he called dining table, "What about...Kia?"
She sucked on her thumb, staring at him curiously.
"Akane?"
No reaction.
"Chie?"
Still no reaction. The man sighed irritably, running his hand through his hair again and bending down to peer closer at the child, hoping for an easy way out. Maybe he could name her after some special feature or something.
His gaze met hers. Those eyes were a bright teal, like his, but there was a faint hint of gold at the centre of her pupils. Almost...almost like there was a lamp or a light source coming from deep down inside those pools of turquoise.
"Please don't make me think more...Hikari?" He suggested, and as if agreeing with him, the little girl cooed, sucking more energetically on her thumb and waving her other fist around, "Hikari it is, then."
He had to give respect to his mother for naming not one, but four children.
