"Now..." He had never spoken this much to himself, but it was easier saying his plans out loud instead of running them over in his mind, and it wasn't like he was screaming them from the top of a building or something, "I'll send you to the orphanage first thing in the morning, and come back baby-free. You'll probably get some adoptive parents who love you, and that's a win-win."
She started to cry.
Fuck my life.
For the third time at six in the morning, Dabi ran his hand through his hair once more and grimaced, his face twisting into an expression that only caused the baby to cry louder, her wails splitting the once quiet air.
"Alright, alright." He really wanted to burn himself up right now, "You won't be sent to the damned orphanage; I won't leave you...so please shut up." Her cries quietened a bit, but she was still bawling, tiny fists waving in the air.
"Oh fuc-" Dabi's nose wrinkled at the sudden stink in the air, before realization quickly sunk into him, "Did you just- You did not just shit yourself."
It only just hit him, the moment she'd lost control, that by keeping the crying brat, he'd have to dig a massive hole in his already meager savings. Diapers; baby clothes; blankets and whatever toys are popular for babies these days. Even if he gave her half his already small room to serve as a nursery, that would still be a huge amount of money spent.
When he looked back down at the brat, she was asleep, tired from her crying fit. Just thinking of the fact there would probably more of those in the oncoming months made his skin crawl with dread.
He could already see the sleepless nights coming for him.
He really didn't want to take care of a kid...she was practically a problem herself with her crying fit and her obvious need for food and attention. So why didn't he just leave her at the orphanage, like he'd planned?
Simple. He couldn't.
Some pathetic little subconscious inside him stopped him.
