Chapter Eight | Shopping and sleeping over
Cordelia's POV:

The eardrum bursting sound of Maebelle screaming her head off fills my ears, bouncing off the walls and down the stair well as the small figure of a little girl runs down to the living room where am I am sat. What a pleasant sound at 8:00 am on a Saturday.

"Mae?" I question, jolting up from my sprawled out position on the couch. "What is it?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows and looking down at her.

She takes a sharp, deep breath before saying, "Th-there was a-" Her explanation is cut short when an eruption of thundering footsteps descend the stairs.

"Maebelle?" Matheo's voice booms, though it's groggy with sleep. "Bells, what's wrong?" He asks, pushing in front of me so that he's facing Maebelle. He crouches down in-front of her and resting his arms on her small shoulders that are covered by a fuzzy pink sweater.

Mae breathes quickly, swallowing and saying, "There was a big, big, big..." She catches her breath again before finishing her sentence, "Spider! Huge! The size of your head! It was in my dollhouse!" Maebelle says, her big brown eyes wide and bulging out of her head.

"Oh jesus, Maebelle. That was all?" Matheo asks resting his head, he releases a breath he must have been holding. He leans his body back up, his tall figure completing blocking my view of Mae, so I step to the side in order to see her again.

Maebelle nods, "Yes, but it tried to crawl on my hand and it gave me a big fright!" She exclaims, looking up at Matheo.

"Okay, well go get a piece of paper and a plastic container I'll get it out for you." He says, ruffing his hand through her hair before she skips off to the kitchen.

Matheo sighs deeply, rolling his shoulders back as he runs a hand through his already messy hair from sleep.

"You didn't have to come barrelling down the stairs you know, I could have helped her with the spider myself." I chime in from behind him, crossing my arms over my chest and looking up at Matheo who is turning around to look down at me.

He glares at me, before smirking slightly and looking at my body, "Cute Pyjamas," He says in a snarky, sarcastic tone.

I glance down at my own body and roll my eyes at his comment. I'm dressed in grey, fluffy pyjama pants and my slightly baggy Scooby Doo t-shirt. "Fall in a ditch." I squint my eyes at him and glare.

"I'd rather fall in a ditch than be near you," He says, turning his back to me a walking to Maebelle who is making her way to the bottom of the stairs.

"Here you go," She says, handing the container and piece of paper up to Matheo.

"Thanks," He says quietly, before Mae grabs his hand and then begin to hand up the stairs.

"Sorry for waking you up Matty, it was only a spider." She says, looking up at him.

Matheo yawns, smiles and looks down responding, "It's okay kid, don't apologise." And with that, they disappear up the stairs.
