↻ ⊲ Ⅱ ⊳ ↺Chapter Fourteen | Bambi
Cordelia's POV:Maebelle and I are laying on the couch watching Bambi. For the seventh time this month. I'm not sure why or how she got me to agree to this, but here we are. Don't get me wrong, it's not at all a bad movie, it was my favorite once too, and dears are my favorite animal, but watching the same cartoon movie seven times in seventeen days is slightly ridiculous. Looking to my right, I see a thoroughly invested Maebelle, focusing on the T.V in-front of her, more than I've seen her focus on anything before.
"Hey, I'm gonna go grab a glass of water," I say, rubbing Maes' shoulder, she gives me a silent nod, her eyes never leaving the screen. Shaking my head with a smile, I hop up off of the couch, and pad down the hall towards the kitchen.
"I just don't know what to do anymore more." The hushed whisper of Carmen says. "He's such a good kid, I mean, he's the best kid I know, but he's not happy. I know he isn't. And most of all today."
Most of all today? What does that mean?
I stop short, hiding at the corner. She has to be talking about Matheo. It's not my business, I know it isn't. But I've always been nosy, and since the whole ordeal with Ted, I've been extra curious about what went down with Matheo and his past. Besides, it's not like I'm going to tell anyone, I'm not interest enough in Matheo to gossip about him.
"Did you get a chance to speak to him today?" My mom asks, her voice equally as quiet.
"I tried this morning, but he rushed out of the house, dismissing his feelings like usual." Carmen replies.
"And has he tried opening up at all?" Mom asks.
"No. It's always 'I'm fine, but how are you?'" Carmen sighs shakily, "Matty is always so wrapped up caring for everyone else, that he never stops to except his own feelings. He never steps back, he never takes a break." I hear a sniffle, as though Carmen is preventing tears from dropping.
I didn't know that.
"What about Mitchell?" That's moms voice. "I thought he got through to Matheo."
"He does. He does. It's just not enough." Carmen sniffs again. "Matty he's- he's just so self-destructive. Even if he gets excellent grades, captains the football team, he works at the garage, he even coaches the little kids football some days. And sure he stays relatively out of trouble, and while he thinks he's kept it a secret, but I know he smokes and drinks, and he's seventeen for gods sake!" She whispers frustratedly.
"The tattoos?" My mom questions, "What were those about?"
Carmen groans, "Matheo is just so impulsive, all the time. I think that's partly why he got them, but he hides everything behind a mask, figuratively and literally, so I suppose getting those tattoos was apart of that. At least the quote is meaningful, but he got it at fourteen! Fourteen years old! And the next one isn't any better, he got that one a year ago!"
I saw his tattoos this morning, when I accidentally walked into his room. Peeking through the towel loosely hanging around his waist, was some sort of quote, wrote in black ink but I don't know what it said, due to it being in Spanish. The other was drawn with black ink as well; resting on his right peck, was a skull, with a snake going through the eye sockets, and wrapping around all the way to the top of his right shoulder. It's jaw opened wide, fangs barring aggressively. It's a beautiful tattoo, but I cannot believe he got it.
