"Hey." My hand clings tighter onto Roman's, tucking my hair behind my ears, I wait to see both of them. Until, "How are you, mum?" My hand slips way to let Roman kiss and hug only his mother, "Where is Tia?" He asks."Hi my dear, Tia had some homework to do so she told me she would come later on." We stepped away from the door to let her in, and I stay hidden slightly behind Roman, embarrassed to be doing so but even more to be looking at her.

"Mum." Roman grabs hold of my hand again, pulling me to the side like a little girl, "Hazel!" Something drops to the floor, and the next thing I know is her arms wrapped around me, her head buried in my hair, "Oh Hazel, my love." My body felt paralysed, my arms dangling at my sides until my eyes met Roman's, nodding at me, telling me with his eyes to hold her too, to seek the same comfort of mother figure.

I do so.

I hug her back even tighter, "My beautiful girl is back. Back home." I tear streaks down my cheeks when I hear words, "I'm so sorry," I mumble in her neck, "I'm-I'm so sorry..." She rubs my back soothingly, "Sh...sh...don't apologise for a thing my love, nothing you did was wrong. Nothing." She looks at me, framing my face.

"So beautiful." She wipes away my tears, "Got a new haircut?" We giggle as she twirls a curly strand around my finger, playing with my curls, "It pissed off Kai." Her eyes went sombre at the mantion of his name, "We will get him Haze, we will kill him, he will get what he deserves." She hugs me again before taking my hand in hers and both of us walking further into the house.

"Have...have you told...?" I didn't have to say her daughters name for Kara to know who I was referring to, "No. Roman told me that was something you would like to do, but if it will help darling, I won't hesitate to-"

"No." We both take a seat in the living room, "Something to drink Mum?" Roman stood in front of us, "Sparkling water or white wine," He nods and looks to me, "Red wine, my love?" I nod with a smile, "Please." He disappears to the kitchen.

"He is so much better now that you came back." I watch her admire her son, watching him walk from one end of the kitchen to other grabbing a pretty champagne glass for is mother a wine glass for me and grabbing a beer from the fridge for himself.

"He was terrible, Hazel. He used to have these..." I hear her voice crack as our eyes stayed glued to the man we both love so dearly, "These hallucinations of you, thinking you were actually here, talking to him, touching him, loving him." I bit down on my bottom lip, hard, thinking about how some of those scenarios weren't fake and how real some of them were. To me. Only me

"He pushed us all away until, one day, he just. Changed." That was me, I changed him. Watching him suffer was just hurting me even more. I needed to say something, do something. Especially on my birthday because I knew he would listen.

"His fight was never over. He grew tired, and wherever he got the courage to get back up, I'm grateful for." I take her hand and squeeze it tight, thanking her, but, being the only one knowing why I was silently thanking her, as I was the only one to know the secret.

"Here you ladies go." I lay out two coasters as he places both glasses on one, "Thank you, son," his mother thanks him, "Thank you, Rome." He looks at me and winks, my cheeks blush like I was back in high school, and every time he looked at me, it made my stomach flip, and my face boiled with desire.

"Mum, should I just go fetch Tia? When will she be coming-?"

Ring! Ring! Ring!

His sentence was short and cut off when the door bell rings, "I'll go get her." Kara stands up but pauses for a moment, "I think, Hazel, and you should wait outside. I'll bring her there." I look to Roman who stares at his mother, both of them looking at each other, speaking with their eyes, their silent communication felt like a private conversation that I interrupted.
