"Seth there you are, umm... Henry wants you to help him with some chores," said mum as I walked into the lighthouse.
"Yeah soon," I grumbled, mum walked back to the laundry, doing washing as she usually did.
I ignored her and made myself a quick snack in the kitchen, and just before I've finished my last bite mum walked in.
"Seth can you go help your father now?" she wasn't happy.
"Ok." I sigh trying to sound as though I'm not furious. I wanted to point out he isn't my father but mum was in a bad mood already so I decided against it.
"He is at the top of the lighthouse." mum added before I had the chance to ask about his whereabouts.
"Great, now I have to climb all those stupid stairs." I groaned.
"Don't be like that! Now hurry up and don't test his patience."
I opened the door that led to the stairs and walked towards them. They were really old and creaked as I climbed up them.
I finally reached the top and found Henry was in the control room, he was busily reading nautical charts and writing down a few notes.
"Hi," I said as I walked in.
Henry simply grunted as if it was his way of greeting.
"The light isn't working can you go to the shop and pick up as many different light bulbs as you can?" mumbled Henry while handing me a fifty-dollar note.
"But you don't actually need a light bulb, the light is created by..." I tried to explain how the light is created, but I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere judging by the look on Henry's face. Henry glared at me still holding out the money.
"I'll be back soon." I mumbled as I took the money and headed downstairs.
Maybe I should get mum to drive me there but I don't think she would like the idea of wasting petrol. I don't want to make her mad at me. She was already cross at Henry and it would be best to ignore her. So I just had to walk. I walked down the spiralling stairs and out of the lighthouse. It takes about fifty minutes to get through the forest and then you have to keep walking until you see a sign saying 'Welcome to the Village, of Seashell Island!" then after a mile or so you reach the city and the first building you come across is the mayors house on Wake Drive. As I walked along the dirt road and kicked up some dust I heard a shout.
"You there." called a voice.
At first I thought someone was scolding me for kicking up the dust but when I looked up, following the sound, I realised the voice belonged to the mayor's daughter Madeline Highton; she was standing in the window up on the second floor. She had long waved blonde hair, pale blue eyes, fair skin, a small nose and a few soft curls. She was also considered the prettiest girl in class. But I've never really noticed her. She always was lathered in make up and she was always talking about some new diet. Not that I usually talk to her, but I've over heard a few things. In school she completely ignored me, just like everyone else did.
"Are you talking to me?" I asked.
She just sighed rudely and folded her arms across her chest.
I guessed she was talking to me.
"Yeah" I said.
"I have a job for you"
"Well I'm not doing any jobs today, but tomorrow..."
"Well I don't want the job to be done tomorrow I want it done now!" she snapped.
"But I need to get a light bulb for Henry for the lighthouse..."
