Mr Hamilton wasted no time and slammed his foot on the accelerator and in less than twenty second we were racing towards the village at something like one hundred kilometres an hour. We passed the army of pirates that were about fifty metres away. We watched as their guns rose and aimed at us. There we're about sixty of them. Their shots were fired with a roar of explosions and the windows of the car were shattered by incoming shots. Maddie was screaming and then the tire blew. The car came to a sudden halt, and Maddie and I lurched forward, my face almost collided with the dashboard.

"Get out, come on! Run to the village, don't stop running," Mr Hamilton shouted above the roar of incoming bullets. "DON'T turn back, just run!"

Maddie drew in a deep breath and opened the car door and started running, just before she had hopped out, a look of terror flashed across her face and then was replaced by determination.

I smiled at him in appreciation and he smiled back. I launched myself out the car and started to run after Maddie.

"Seth," I stopped and turned to Mr Hamilton.

"Yeah," I said anxiously, I wanted to get going.

"Your father, I'm sorry I haven't told you yet, but now isn't the time," he smiled sympathetically.

"Wait, what do you mean? What haven't you told me?" I yelled trying to get my voice heard over the roar of the pirates.

"The hexagon's, something you're father was trying to figure out, I'm sorry," he hollered.

"What do you mean? I don't get it?" I shouted.

"There's no, time, hurry, you need to go," he pointed toward the village.

"Wait, but?"

"Just go!" he ordered sternly.

Confused, I obeyed and ran toward Maddie. I could see her small body in the distance and I sped up. I didn't care about the bullets that flew past me, the next bullet only centimetres away from me. I was close enough to Maddie now, enough to run beside her

"We'll make it, Maddie," I reassured her. Her eyebrows furrowed and she shook her head. I hoped she wasn't ready to give up.

Even though my legs were aching I still ran as fast as I could. We were almost near the village. I could hear the pirates yelling, even though they were a good three hundred yards away. We got to the hospital a few minutes later, rushed through the doors, passed through the long passageways and straight to Mr Parsons' office. He must have been in a meeting as there were two men in suits talking with him.

"Seth! Maddie! What-" Mr Parsons started.

"Pirates," Maddie rasped, "attacking... now... no time," she panted.

"What?" Mr parsons gasped.

"They're coming now," I wheezed, just as faint gunshots echoed in the air around us.

"Sound the alarm!" Mr Parsons ordered. The men in the suits ran to a red cabinet in the wall. Opened it, then one of them keyed in some code and the sudden siren blared through the whole village. It sounded like one from the war movies when there was one of those air raids.

"How come I never knew about this?" I asked.

"Weren't you listening in the war meeting?" frowned Mr Parsons.

"He probably wasn't," Maddie scowled as she answered for me.

"Well, what are the villagers going to do then," I queried as the gunshots got louder now.
