There was a small podium set up in the middle of the square and the streetlights created an eerie atmosphere that you could sense in the tension. The mayor hurried on as Madeline and I stayed toward the back of the crowd. As the mayor stepped up onto the podium I started to look around for my mum. I hadn't seen her since this morning. There were too many people so I tried to pay attention to what the mayor was saying.

"Villagers, I regret to inform you that we have been unable to find the owners of the ship, but they could be on this island and could be dangerous, we really can't say that we know, so please contact police if..." the mayor was completely cut short as the village bus screeched to a stop in front of the village square. It was the same bus that had almost flattened Madeline. Many people started to scream in panicking confusion.

The bus doors were flung open, a middle aged man with long dreadlocks and a grey plaited bread, he was very sun burnt and had a cruel expression on his face. But it was pretty dark and the street lamps weren't giving off enough light, so I couldn't see what he was wearing

There was about eight seconds of silence until the man then clicked his fingers and dozens and dozens of men ran out the bus then surrounded the whole square. Everyone stood frozen waiting for that mans' next move.

Then the man started walking towards the podium the mayor still stood there then two of the men that had jumped out of the bus walked up behind the mayor. They grabbed him by his arms, Mr Highton began to struggle, but before he could cry out they had covered his mouth. People began screaming, yelling and trying to run, but the men had surrounded the village square and they wouldn't let us out. A few police officers in the crowd ran to stop everything, but they were no match to the men. As there started to wrestle with the men one by one they were shot dead. There were more screams and more people shot. I watched as Mrs McCann crumpled to the ground as a bullet hit her chest.

"No," I had screamed. But by the time I reached her she was dead. Then I turned away. Cody and his family stood not too far away from me.

"Mummy," wailed Cody's younger sister, Joyce.

"Shut that kid up!" yelled one of the men from the bus who was standing nearby.

"Joy, it's alright, mum will be here soon," pleaded Cody as he knelt down to his sisters level. It was strange seeing him act so differently. However little Joyce kept crying in panic.

"I said shut her up," yelled the man again.

Still Joyce wept, and then the furious looking man strode over to Cody and his sister. As quick as a flash he had out his gun ready to shoot.

"No please she'll stop," Cody cried.

Bang.

Cody's body crumpled to the ground. I ran, scooped up Joyce and ran away and away from Cody's body heading deeper into the thick crowd of my people. I had to stop Joyce from crying.

But then Mrs Highton ran towards her husband crying out, trying to do everything possible to stop the men. One of them grabbed her then and they began trying to take them both to the bus. That was when Madeline began screaming and trying to get to her parents that's when the gunshot, louder than all the others sounded, through the square everyone turned an watched as the gun man held his weapon high. No one had been shot this time, but it had gotten everyone's attention.

"Enough!" roared the gunman, "you are to obey or these people get shot," he indicated towards the mayors and his wife.

"No, please," Madeline, screamed.

"Enough," a man walked up to her he watched the man with the plaited beard, and the guy with the plaited beard shook his head, so the other man walked off.
