"Mum?" I called loudly.
"Yeah" she answered.
"There you are"
Mum was at the kitchen bench making some sort of vegetable pastries.
"Um, I'm sure Mrs Lester was going to make dinner," said Maddie.
"Yeah, was going to," said Mum sarcastically.
"Mum" I warned.
"What" she snapped yet she was smiling.
"Umm, thanks for making dinner, but you really didn't have to," smiled Maddie thankfully.
"Seth did you want to go set the table?" Mum asked.
"Sure," I agreed.
"Here I'll help you I know where all the cutlery is," Maddie offered.
"Maddie do you know where the baking trays are?" Mum asked.
"Umm, err maybe that drawer, or that cupboard, or even..."
"Okay, okay," laughed Mum, "I think I'll try find it myself," she chuckled.
"I really never cook anything," Maddie looked down at her feet.
"It's alright," Mum smiled.
"Come on Maddie, aren't we going to set the table?" I asked.
"Yeah coming," Maddie replied as she followed me to the dinning room.
We set the table rather quickly then we chatted a bit in the kitchen while waiting for the pastry things to cook. As soon as they were ready mum plated them and we were soon eating.
"These are way better than Mrs Lester's pastries," Maddie exclaimed.
"Thankyou," Mum smiled.
"They seemed to have some extra spice, usually Mrs Lester just puts the vegetables, which is so plain and not as nice," Maddie criticized.
"How long has Mrs Lester been working for your family?" asked Mum seriously.
"Not long at all, she is really strange and is always snapping at me or even my parents, she just has no respect at all for anyone," Maddie grumbled.
"I had only married Henry for a short time, and he... well you know what happened, I don't think you should trust her," Mum told Maddie cautiously.
"Don't trust whom?" Mrs Lester said as she suddenly walked into the kitchen.
"Umm, why the grocers wife, she cheated me with the price of lettuce last week," my Mum stammered.
"Really well... I'll make sure to not come across with her," Mrs Lester smiled.
"I feel tired, I'm going to bed," said Mum with a yawn.
"Well, I was just about to head off to bed also," Mrs Lester said.
"Good night" I said, I stayed up for a while but soon after Mum had gone to bed I went to sleep as well.
I awoke the next morning at around nine o'clock. I usually get up before six to do my chores. Then I remembered the night before, I hadn't slept well, and the bed was almost too soft for me. I walked down stairs and into the kitchen.
I saw Mrs Lester there.
"Good morning" she said.
"Morning, do you know where my Mum is?" I asked.
"Yes, but she told me she wanted a day by herself, you know how much she has been through"
"Okay now, is Maddie up?"
