We got back to Maddie to find she's broken out in sweat. She moaned every now and then, but her eyes stayed shut tight.

"She's gone delirious," the nurse exclaimed.

"What's going on?" I asked a concerned voice.

We all spun around to face Mr Parsons.

"I think she's going into another relapse," the nurse panicked.

"Get another doctor and have Seth taken back to his bed," John orders.

"No I'm staying here," I protested loudly.

"Fine," he says as the nurse hurried out the room.

"Aren't you a doctor?" I asked desperately.

"No, I'm just in charge of patients, more of an admin part of the staff," he says.

"What's going to happen to her?" I search their faces for answers.

A few days later Maddie has awoken and the doctors say she should be staying that way. We still haven't gone to see Monica yet.

"So you feeling any better?" I asked her as we sat in her room.

"I can feel myself getting stronger everyday, but it's a slow process," she replied

"Great news," John announces himself as he walks into the room, " Monica has woken up," he smiled.

"We have to be allowed to see her," I demanded shouting.

"Hush, you can go, but as long as you don't scream like that," Mr Parsons scolded, yet he couldn't hide his smile.

"Seth, Maddie" Monica grinned a weak sort of smile, as we entered the room.

"Hey Monica," Maddie ran to her bedside.

"Are you alright," I asked.

Monica 's face was paler than Maddie's had been, her dark hair was plaited to one side, she also had peeling lips and bad sun burn.

"Yeah," she still smiled.

We chatted all afternoon, we told Monica where we were and what had happened. She seemed disappointed when she learned the pirates still had control over the island. There was no mention of the bullet; I desperately wanted to ask her why she had leaped in front of me.

But all to soon we had to go back to our rooms for our dinner. That night I just couldn't fall asleep. How were we going to stop the pirates? They watched everyone as pirates patrolled the village day and night. The pirates had control over the communication system so we couldn't call other countries to our aid. As I lay staring at the ceiling a strange feeling crept over me. I brushed it away.

It seemed like I had only just shut my eyes when someone was shaking me awake.

"Seth, wake up," it was Maddie.

"What? What is it?" I said shocked.

"It's Monica," she sobbed.

"She's, she's gone?" I asked astonished.

Maddie couldn't answer.

"But..." I gasped in disbelief.

"Seth!" mum cried as she ran into the room.

"Monica?" I asked.

"She's close," was all mum could whisper. Mum practically fell into a chair exhausted.

I ran through the hallways desperately trying to remember which room she was staying in. My throat raged but I couldn't stop running towards something...
