THERE WAS ONLY one phone in the Hopper Household. It took ages for Maggie to convince her dad that he didn't need the phone in the kitchen where it was previously and to keep it in her room.

"I'm a girl, I'm gonna talk about bras and tampons!" Is what she told her dad, for some reason that was the breaking point. He didn't think a girl going into her Junior Year at the time needed her own phone. He realized that it was true, to be fair he could go and get a second phone. Hopper was simply too lazy.

The only time Maggie would usually use the phone was late at night, after her dad fell asleep. Besides, Hopper was rarely home at the same time as his daughter. He also used the Police Department Phone much more often.

El wasn't allowed to know there was a phone in the room next to hers. The only contact that El was allowed to have was the radio. Hopper would constantly radio the young girl, Maggie not so much but she would occasionally. Maggie just didn't know Morse Code by heart.

This Friday night was just like the rest, Maggie late on the phone. Running the phone bill up, she called all of her friends. All night, she would walk around her room, the cord getting all tangled up with anything. She was currently on the phone with Allie.

Allie had just gotten home, winding down from her night out. Maggie was comfy in her own bed, after she used up the rest of the hot water during her shower.

"What happened with you and Kip tonight?" Allie asked her friend. Maggie could hear the smirk in her voice. She knew Allie always wanted her and Kip to date, and if not date, at least hookup. She's been picking at it since middle school.

Maggie rolled her eyes, "We just hung out, drank stuff, I guess."

A groan left Allie's lips, "You two are so boring. All you guys ever do is sit." She's not wrong. "Maybe sit on his lap next time! Grind on him! Suck him off!"

"Shh!" Maggie screamed at her friend. Something Maggie learned over the years was that the Harrington's had no filter. It seemed like they talked quicker than they thought and just went along with it.

"Is that Margie?" a muffled voice came from the other side of the phone. Not only did it sound like Steve, it was the nickname that Steve gave her when Allie and Maggie first became friends.

"No, fuck off," Allie deadpanned.

"I love you, Margie!" Steve cooed.

It sounded like Allie stood up from her bed and threw the phone down. "Get out of my room!" she called to her brother who continued to shout loving words to Maggie. The door slammed and Allie made her way back to the phone. "He's so annoying!" Allie gritted her teeth.

"Siblings can be," Maggie lightly laughed.

"You're lucky you don't have any."

A breath got stuck in Maggie's throat and she cleared it with a cough. Silence fell between the two friends and Maggie inhaled. She looked for something to say. "That Billy guy is weird."

Why was that what she decided to talk about?

Allie laughed, "He's so into you, dont tell Kip."

"I'm not into Kip!"

"He's so into you," Allie rebutted. "Besides, you two are in the lead for Homecoming King and Queen."

Maggie blew her off, "I'm not going."

"When did Maggie Hopper become so lame?"

The blonde scoffed, "It's my dad, he's had a stick up his ass for the past year."
