The three adults just stared at each other for the longest time. Emily said nothing but turned her attention back to her son to make sure he was okay. She knew this day would come and hoped to tell both of them sooner. She just didn't know how they would react. As she held her son she knew it was time for them to meet the one who captured her heart three years ago.
"Jason. Hakeem. This is my son Jeremiah." She said then exhaled that the worst part was over as she glanced back and forth between the two men.
"Your son?" Hakeem asked as he rubbed his hand on the back of his neck still shocked.
"Emily why didn't you tell me you had a child?" Jason asked shocked that she didn't tell him this when they first went out.
"I'm sorry I meant to tell you when I first met you Jason but I wasn't sure how you would react." she said full of shame for keeping this a secret.
"Well then we need to talk about this more. Where is his father?" Jason sighed wanting to get more information about this and tried to remain calm.
"I'd rather not talk about him in front of my son." she pleaded.
"Why we need to talk about this. Just drop him off at his father's so we can talk about this." Jason said through gritted teeth now getting angry.
"Hey Jason chill. It took courage for Emily to tell us just remember that. She will explain everything in her own time." Hakeem sighed getting frustrated that Jason is trying to pry the truth out of her.
"I'm sorry Mr. Reynolds but why are you still here. Don't you have young boys to coach." Jason smirked at Hakeem.
"And don't you have cases to lose. That's right I know you are a lawyer and kind of a lousy one too." Hakeem threw back at Jason with a smile.
Jason gave Hakeem the death stare but didn't speak as Hakeem seemed not fazed by the glare. Emily knew if she didn't get Jason out of the same room with Hakeem they would probably begin fighting.
"Jason can we talk about this later" Emily chimed in making the men turn their attention back on her.
"Alright we will talk about this later." Jason said then gave Hakeem a icy glance before walking out of the high school.
Hakeem and Emily just stood there in silence for a minute. Her son as scurried out of her arms and ran back into her office leaving just the two of them alone. Hakeem walked over to Emily and stood in front of her. His beautiful light brown eyes were hard to read but he relaxed glad Jason was gone.
"Was that the reason you wouldn't invite me inside your home? Because you didn't want me to find out you had a child?" he asked hoping she would be honest.
"Yes that is the reason why. I'd rather tell you in person then have you find out another way." she said as her head bowed in shame for keeping her precious son a secret.
Hakeem reached out and lifted her head to meet his eyes and smiled at her reassuring her that he was not angry with her.
"Look Emily you shouldn't have to worry if a man will react the right way or not about your son. If a man rejects you because of that he is a fool. How can you love the mother but not the child. I will tell you that I'm not mad or upset at all. He's cute and looks just you."
"Thank you Hakeem for understanding." She smiled and stood on her tip toes to kiss his cheek.
As she started to walk away Hakeem pulled her to a corner in the hallway and bent down to kiss her lips. Oh how he has missed kissing her lips. He thought he was satisfied when he kissed her at his event but later that night his body craved her. Her sweet scent and tantalizing kiss ignited every fiber in his body. He knew he needed to slow down but he couldn't just yet. Hearing soft quick steps down the hallway Emily broke off the kiss that left them both breathing hard. Hakeem just looked in Emily's eyes as he licked his full lips loving the taste of her.
