Chapter 15

Today was Emily's birthday and Hakeem made sure his plan for her day was special and one she never would forget. Hakeem got up around seven in the morning to fix a nice breakfast for Emily. Flipping the pancakes over on the griddle he checked on the bacon in the oven to make sure it was getting crispy. Grabbing a plate from the cabinet he put the pancakes and bacon with a side of fresh strawberries with a glass of orange juice on a tray. Before going up to the guest room where Emily was still sleeping he grabbed the card off of the counter to put on the tray and opened his fridge and grabbed a bouquet of red roses. Grabbing everything and making his way upstairs he quietly opened the door to the guest room and sat everything on the dresser near the bed.

Hakeem looked over at Emily who was sleeping so soundly that he leaned over and kissed her forehead and then whispered "Happy Birthday Emily." before leaving her room.

He took the time to get ready to ensure the rest of his plan was set for later. Krista had some things planned for her during the day while that evening was Hakeem's time with Emily. Deciding he needed to stop at the main office first to check on some work stuff first he quickly showered and got dressed to leave before Emily woke up.

Smelling something sweet Emily turned over on her side and opened her eyes to see a tray with breakfast and red roses on the dresser. Climbing out of bed she grabbed the items and decided to have breakfast in bed. After eating about half of her meal she decided to open the card that had her name on it. The card read:

Happy birthday to a very special girl. May your day be filled with love and happiness. Happy Birthday Emily, I hope you enjoy your breakfast in bed and the flowers. Your first surprise will be at nine thirty this morning so get ready. There will be other surprises throughout today and a special evening planned. Enjoy your birthday.

Emily smiled as her heart filled with so much love that Hakeem took the time to make her birthday special. Normally she would not really want to do much but spend time with her son or Krista. This was the first time anyone had ever made her breakfast in bed and she could get use to things like this if she lived with him permanently. Permanently was a word she shouldn't use. Emily knew once the apartment complex was finished she would go her way and Hakeem would go his. She was just his temporary house guest and nothing more. Even if he did say he had feelings for her. Emily knew he couldn't be serious about her and he probably wanted a fling, something short term. She then thought back to the book she was reading where the two main characters were engaging into a no-strings attach relationship. It could be fun but Emily knew her feelings would get hurt because she was someone who loves hard. But then again thinking about Krista knowing she will tell her to live a little and have fun since she puts others before herself. Finishing up the last bite of pancake and piece of bacon Emily looked at the clock as it said eight forty-five. Taking her dishes downstairs she washed them then got ready for today since she had no clue what will happen. Emily also missed Jeremiah as he didn't wake her up with a kiss and happy birthday like he normally did on her birthday.

After showering and putting on a long sleeved shirt and jeans with a pair of low boots. Emily walked over to her mirror to check her appearance and fluff up her hair before she heard the doorbell ring. Rushing to the door she couldn't wait to see who was there as her first surprise. Emily opened the door and smiled brightly at her best friend Krista stood before her with her arms opened for a hug.

"Hello birthday girl ready for some fun?" Krista asked after they shared a big bear hug.

"Yes beyond ready. So where are we going?" Emily asked as they walked to Krista's car.
