When Eda had to choose Alex's name she was in crisis, she had recently chosen to take the little girl with her, going against any residue of common sense she had left since there were too many against it (yes, Eda Clawthorne thought first to make a decision, simply because there was a poor little girl's life in the middle of it and she didn't want to risk making a bad decision): the fact that she had a curse that she couldn't yet control (and would probably never control) ; the fact that she was alone without a minimum of external help because she almost never spoke to her parents, her mother came to visit her once every year, yes, but she certainly wouldn't have been able to help her and she DIDN'T want her help; and then there was her sister, her adored and perfect sister, Lilith, even if she was dead she would have asked her for a hand and she had decided that she should NEVER have found out about the little girl at any cost.
And then her entire family and all the people she knew most likely considered her too childish and irresponsible to raise such a small child and would most likely ask her whose child it was...if it was her and...Raine's daughter ...her ex, an ex who she had left because of the curse, who she had left in a moment full of fear and uncertainty and Eda, even though she had left him, loved him in a disproportionate way and in that moment, especially in that moment she wanted Raine to be there to comfort her but she wasn't and maybe it was for the best.
