"What is it Darius?" They said back trying to hide her frustration.
"We have to go teach the kids!" He shouted back from the other side of the gym already intent on going towards the abomination class, 'the sooner you start the sooner you get the kids out of the way' this was Darius' mantra.
By now he had already left the gym leaving the two alone, strangely there was no one else there, everyone had left, including Bump.
"I'm sorry but it looks like I have to go to class, we have to postpone our conversation." They said shortly after, apologizing for the sudden interruption of their conversation, more unhappy that he couldn't find out his mother's name.
"Ok ..." She replied Alex not even trying to hide the discontent she felt.
"Sorry again." Raine said half running towards the gym door; however, trying not to be late, they didn't notice Alex who, silent as an owl, was going behind the stands to take a secret trapdoor, one of the many entrances to the secret room.
She entered that invisible room which was identical as usual; same marble spiral staircase; same graffiti scattered across the walls and same painting covered with a spray can. She had never understood who was depicted under all that paint and she didn't even want to remove all the paint so she lived with that question.
She entered, went down the spiral stairs and entered one of the 200 boxes on the walls, more precisely she entered the box that led to Bardi's class, her favorite class. Now that Raine was also there as a teacher she couldn't help but attend.
The class was a typical classroom: blackboard, desks and teacher's desk were not missing.
She entered from the secret passage at the back of the room, hidden from all the students.
She sat on a bench in the last row, none of her could see her from there but she, instead, could see everything and everyone. It was a perfect place not to be found, since no one ever noticed her presence...
Raine had already started the lesson and was giving the lesson, they seemed confident and no longer as awkward as before, they had all eyes on them, which made they anxious, everyone was paying attention to they.Raine's lesson had been really interesting and she had also managed not to get caught.
"Campanella, good, I think we're done, now I'm sorry guys but Raine has to go." Said the teacher of Bardi's class.
"Nooo..." The whole class replied in displeased unison.
"Yes yes I know it was great but now Raine has to leave..." The professor immediately replied.
Before the students got up to finally leave and go home, Alex stealthily ran to the entrance to the secret passage at the end of the room. He shouldn't have gotten caught. He entered the picture, followed the route backwards but this time, instead of going out to the gym, I went directly to his uncle's office."What the hell Alex, you freaked me out! I didn't hear you come in!" Bump shouted, risking having a heart attack from fright, and risking swearing.
"Maybe it's because I'm as quiet as an owl." Alex said in response all smiles.
"It will be so, you are such a little owl." Bump said patting her head affectionately understanding the metaphor he had just made of her five year old granddaughter. She was too smart her nephew.
"Anyway it would be better to go to the entrance, by now the students should have already run away home so your mother should arrive soon..." she said after a while smiling at her nephew.
"Yes! Mom!" Alex shouted jumping for joy.
"Hey Hey, don't worry, you only saw her this morning." She responded laughing slightly marveling at the love Alex felt for her mother.
"Indeed, too long." She replied Alex seriously and pouting.
Alex and Bump calmly left the office heading towards the school exit to meet Eda who was returning from her excursion.
They arrived at the entrance to the school and as I had said Bump everyone had already left, not even a small group was left, they had all run away.
They stood there waiting in silence for a few minutes when they saw Eda arriving on Owlbert. She had a black cloak on and the only reason they recognized her was because of the time and of course her talisman, Owlbert.
"Mom!" Alex immediately ran to her mother and climbed up behind her, onto her broom.
"Hey owl, missed?" He asked Eda softly, turning to look her daughter in her eyes and then immediately turning away.
"Yes." He responded immediately by hugging her from behind her. Eda took off in flight.
"Thanks Bumpkins!" Yelled Eda now in the air.
"You're welcome..." Bump said in response in a low voice, not caring that Alex's mother wouldn't hear him.
It was always like this, Eda would leave Alex at school, she would return at the end of the day and immediately fly away. Always the same story...
If it weren't for the fact that, unbeknownst to everyone, it wasn't just them: Bump, Edalyn Clawthorne, and Alex Skye Clawthorne; but also Raine Whispers who hadn't left school yet, how surprising they was to see that scene, to see Eda pick up a little girl from school who called her "mom". How did they know that hers was Eda because she was the only one who called Bump "Bumpkins" and was the only one who could have Owlbert as a talisman, Eda would never lend her talisman to anyone, not even them.
