Chapter 1 Special Eye

Ruby's pov

I am Ruby Sanchez and I have this Special ability I call it Special Eye and I have known I had it since I was old enough to remember. In school I could see the chalkboard from the back row. But anyway I am 15 years old now and I am now in high school.

To be honest I was a bit nervous not because of my grades but because of making friends. I haven't had much luck in making friends before, but maybe this year it'll change.

You see I'm a bit different than the normal teens that are in high school. I have good grades, sight and I'm a bit more mature too. That's probably why I'm not good at making friends.

Anyway I took the Bus to school...

I made it to school with just a few minutes to spare and a bit more time to find my class. First period- English...

I know a bit of English but it's not my mother language. I am part African American part Hispanic. My Mom is Hispanic and my Dad is African American. We are a diverse family and I couldn't love it anymore.

"Ah right on time!" My English teacher said.

I sat down in my seat next to a boy that had short black hair and blue eyes. And his ears were big. "Hey what's your name?" I whispered trying to make a friend. "It's Leo." He said sounding a bit tired. "Oh hey Leo I'm Ruby!" I said. He groaned before putting his head down on the desk.

"Leo Winchester!" The teacher yelled slamming the chalk down on her desk making a loud noise. Leo flinched up his ears turning red. 'Intriguing.' I thought wanting to touch his ears for some reason.

"Hmm now I will be your English teacher for the next Semester and you well better remember my name!" She said in a stern voice. She wrote down her name with the chalk from before. The chalkboard read: Mrs. Reeds(thanks Whitehawx).

Our first assignment was to write what we truly desired in an essay format. 'Easy peasy lemon squeezy' I thought smiling. I could see out of the corner of my eye Leo looking at me. I looked at him and he looked away. I smiled. 'Hmm I like him I want to be friends with him.' I thought before working on my essay.

The bell rang... "And you're homework for tonight is to finish your essay if you haven't already!" Mrs. Reeds said as some of the students were already leaving out the door. I walked up to her to hand in my essay. She looked at me with a stern look. "Done already Miss Sanchez?" She asked raising an eyebrow. I nodded. "Yes Ma'am!" I said. "Alright I'll go through it tonight!" She said. I turned around and didn't expect to see Leo there. He walked up to Mrs. Reeds and handed in his paper. "You too?" She asked. "Yeah me too." Leo said sounding a bit mockingly.

"Sooo what period do you have next?" I asked Leo as we walked out of the classroom. "Art." He said sounding a bit annoyed. "Oh I don't have that I have Math!" I said. He rolled his eyes. "Alright." He said walking away from me. 'So much for making a new friend.' I thought a bit sad.
