**what I imagine Fred looks like**
Newt and Fred chuckled at me. I frowned at them.
"Why is it so fun to you guys that I have questions?" I asked, trying to keep the frustration out of my voice, I pulled a dandelion from the ground, and played with it.
"Greenies always have questions, apparently. It's funny cuz they're always the same. I asked them too." Said Fred.
"Fine. So then you'll understand how unsettling and frustrating this is. And add to the pile of shi-"
"Klunk." Newt cut me off quickly.
"What?"
"Klunk." He repeated.
"Again. What?" I gave him a weird look.
What kind of messed up word is klunk?
"Klunk. Means poop." Fred shrugged, "uhh, Newt here has a weird thing about saying no no words. So we made up our own."
"But...if the made up word replaces the other word... shouldn't the made up word be just as bad? If it has the same meaning?" I asked, frowning. I scrunched my face trying to understand their weird logic for things.
Newt opened his mouth, looked at me thoughtfully and then closed it.
"Huh. Valid point Shanket."
"Okay, next question. What's a shank? Or..Shanket? I'm guessing that's the female version?" I asked.
"Yeah. Shank means like.. friend.. brother..do I guess Shanket is sister." Newt explained.
I nodded slowly. That one made sense, a weird word, but made some sense.
"Where are we?" I asked, my voice going quieter, as I slowly pulled the dandelion apart.
It was quiet for a little, I glanced up at the boys in front of me. I saw them glance at eachother and then at me. I sat up straighter and narrowed my eyes at them. I could feel my teeth grinding together.
Newt was watching me. He ran a large hand through his hair and sighed.
"This is the Glade, all right? It's our bloody home. We built it from the ground up. It’s where we live, where we eat, where we sleep. We call ourselves the Gladers.” Newt explained slowly.
"Why all boys? How come I'm the only girl?"
Both boy's shrugged. Their lack of answers was frustrating. How could they not know?
"We don't nothin'!" Fred shrugged.
He seemed oddly okay with not knowing anything. Newt was watching me, and when I made eye contact with him he lowered his eyes to the ground and sighed. Again.
"Look girly." Newt shook his head and leaned back on his hands. "We know nothin'! All we know is that the creators sent us here. We don't know nothing else. We know those bloody supplies come up every two weeks and every month a new Greenie shows up. Like clock work. Your the first girl. Why? Who the bloody hell knows. And if you ever meet the bloody skint heads who put us here you can ask 'em yourself."
I growled in frustration, and shoved my hand through my hair.
"Looks like you know just about as much as I do." I muttered.
Newt chuckled. "You get used to it."
"It still sucks."
Newt just hummed in response. He got to his feet with a groan. I watch as he got up.
