Beckett
She's gorgeous with her long blond hair pulled back, pale blue eyes and a smile that lights up her entire face. She isn't very tall, maybe five foot two. It looks like her head would rest on my chest if we were standing side by side. She's wearing tight ass jeans and a fitted tank that says, The Daily Drip with her tanned toned arms on display. Damn, I may be fucked.
"So Beckett, what can I get ya?"
I didn't even realize I was staring until she repeated her question.
"I'll take a black coffee to go please." I go to reach for my wallet but she stops me.
"Oh no you don't. The police department doesn't pay when they come in here."
I take a step back from the counter to wait while she takes the orders of the few other people who came in after we did.
"You were staring at my sister." I look over at Tyson and shrug.
" I'm not going to apologize for that. She's a beautiful woman."
He shakes his head before he speaks, " Look Rookie, I'm not going to warn you away from her. She is a grown ass woman who can make her own decisions when it comes to relationships. With that being said, don't start something with her if you're just looking for a quick lay. Millie isn't that type of girl."
I don't respond to that. I'm not sure how the topic of relationships even came about. Do I even want a relationship? I've only been here a week, the last thing on my mind before walking in here was women.
I always knew I was going to be a cop. The only difference was I planned to work alongside my dad at the department back home. That was until he was killed in the line of duty when I was twelve. I still wanted to be a cop after that, I just no longer wanted to work at the place he called home for twenty years. I didn't want that reminder every single time I walked through the door. I moved thirty minutes away from my hometown of Jasper. I didn't want to move too far away from my mom. She is all I have and vice versa. I sometimes wish my parents had more kids so I wouldn't feel so guilty about not being around more. I'm broken out of my thoughts when Millie places our coffees on the counter.
"There ya go boys."
I thank her for my coffee and place a five dollar bill in the tip jar. She hits me with what I think is supposed to be an intimidating glare, it wasn't, it was sexy as hell. I toss her a wink and assure her that I'll be seeing her around.
We get back to the station and unfortunately I'm on bitch duty. Typical bitch duty is cleaning the offices, washing the patrol cars, gathering up the trash, basically whatever they want me to do. I think departments do this to see how far they can push the new guy. If you do what you're told, told not asked, you get respected. I'll do whatever I need to do in order to earn my spot here. I think Millie has definitely added to my reasons that moving here was the right decision.
The day goes on rather quickly and before I know it it's about time to leave for the day.
"Come see me before you leave for the day." Chief says as he walks past me back towards his office.
"Yes, sir."
After taking the trash out back I head to the office I was requested at.
"You wanted to see me sir?"
"I just wanted to let you know that starting your next shift you'll be with Tyson." I nod my head in acknowledgement.
"You know son, your dad would be proud of you. I don't know if you know this, but your dad and I went to the academy together. He was a good man."
I clear the emotion from my throat. "Thank you, sir."
That's all I could manage to say to him. I wasn't even aware that he knew my dad. I will have to ask my mom if she knew about that on our next weekly chat.
"Go on home and enjoy your next few days off before your new schedule. It'll be nights for a while."
I do as I'm told and head home for the day.
