My feet were pounding against the hard sidewalk. All I wanted to do was just go back to camp half blood and sleep for eons. I couldnt though, I had this darn quest. I looked down at my hand again that was clutching the circlet of Hestia. So much work all for a piece of metal with a few rubies in it. Nemesis just had to steal her most preferred possession. I would never let Percy live this one down. How his 14 year old sister had to save I'm whilst he slept for a week...
"Ellie wait up!" I looked back to see Jarett's sprinting behind me. I couldn't slow down. Our deadline was in 15 minutes. My knees were stinging from when I fell about 5 blocks ago. I could see the entrance to the Empire state building ahead. A smile broke my face and I could feel weight being lifted off my shoulders. The flames in my calves were suddenly gone until I heard a peircing scream. I stopped dead in my tracks, knowing that the scream was coming from one of my now best friends. A gorgon was dragging his feet. Another one of these run ins with Medusa's sisters. My breath hitched in my throat and I was unable to move as I saw Jarettes open his eyes just the smallest bit. I knew his mistake was fatal as he started to turn into stone. He would forever be frozen as a statue in fear. At tear rolled down my cheek and I suppressed sobs that threatened to escape. I had to push him aside I had to deliver this circlet before its too late. I looked one last time at Jarett, turned and ran the last yards to Olympus's entrance.
*************
"Lady Hestia. I present you your circlet." Hestia's pale and tired face lit up as she reached for her stolen possesion. I smiled a tight-lipped grin that was no doubt, the most false I've ever had to conjure.
"Elena Piper. Do not put a mask on to hide your sadness in my presence. I have noticed that you've come alone."
My face fell and I hung my head in greif. "Jarett and Mallory have unfortunately been killed in the process of retrieving your circlet." The hearth of Olympus died a little as Hestia's face turned slightly paler.
"I know this may be hard. You haven't the slightest idea of how important to me this is. Ellie do you know why this circlet is so important?" Hestia stood up and motioned for me to walk with her.
"Ellie as you know I am a very minor goddess. I am time after time skipped over, forgotten. It's extremely hard to try and let go of the anger I feel for the major gods for example your father even! Many centuries ago of group of men in Greece found a very old temple of a forgotten goddess. The walls were painted with fires keeping families warm and they soon remembered me, Hestia. I am the goddess of the hearth. The men decided I was much too underappreciated and decided to make a token for me. It was sliver circlet with rubies enlayed at the front. It wasn't the most beautiful thing but it was, and still is incredibly special to me. Ellie, no man has ever given me credit or appreciation in this way before. I cannot bring your friends back to life unfortunately, I do not have that power. I can only offer a wish for you." I was stunned. I had one thing on my mind when I asked for my wish.
"Hestia. Thank you. I would like my brother Percy Jackson to be woken from his sleep and when he wakes his and his girlfriend's sleeping problems will be cured." Hestia smiled.
"You know I've met your brother before. He was very kind to me." Consider it done." My heart lept and before I knew it, I was hugging Hestia.
Talk about awkward....
