Everett's POV

"Oh, yeah?" I reply, trying not to give too much away.

"Oh, yes. He was an exceptional young man. The youngest alpha in the entire country." He chuckles again, but he seems sour now. "I grew up with him actually."

After giving him a blank stare, he sighs and goes on. "If you don't get your father out here right now I will have my troops attack and weaken his forces. Then, we will move in and tear apart the children in front of their parents. After that, we'll kill the mothers, then the fathers, then I'll move onto your family. Your younger brother.. Your mother... Your father.. Your mate?"

I keep a blank expression, nobody knows I've found her and I'm not giving it away to this scumbag. "Try it."

The man steps closer and behind him I see his rogues do the same. "I never wanted to do this to you, nephew." He winks at me and gestures the wolves forward. "Sick em, boys!"

I immediately shift and my pack readies themselves behind me. By vision becomes red and I start ripping into the matted fur of the rogues. All around me howls of pain and fury echo into the air and I can only hope we are winning.

I see Keaton and Tanner on other sides of the field. Bodies line the ground of the once well groomed clearing and I groan. My mom's gonna kill me.

The large wolf starts approaching me from where he retreated to the edge of the clearing. His dark red coat is completely clean of any blood. I can change that. I snarl and step towards the man claiming to be my uncle.

He chuckles, if a wolf can do that. Before I can react he launches himself at me, sinking his teeth deep into my shoulder. I quickly shake him off but he scampers out of reach before I can do any damage. Adrenaline pumps through my veins and the place he bit me doesn't seem to hurt as much as it should.

I crouch down and jump towards him, but suddenly he's behind me. Frustrated, I growl. As I go to turn, he sinks his teeth into my hind leg. Digging his teeth down to the bone and tugging me back. This time a searing pain shoots up my leg and spine and I yelp.

He drops me and prances around me like this is just some twisted game. Then his jaw is around my neck. I struggle and snap at him but he just digs his teeth in further, shaking his head like a puppy playing tug of war. I yelp and fight off the darkness, clawing at the ground trying to get away.

I have never felt so entirely helpless before. I'll never be able to protect my mate or this pack if I can't even protect myself. With that thought I let my eyes slip closed.
