Chapter 13

Everett's POV

And that's when Tanner decides to barge into my office, causing my mate to jump and pull her arms back to her. I growl and pull her closer to me.

I know Tanner isn't a threat, but something, maybe the fact that she's unmarked or that we had just met, makes me weary about Tanner's presence.

"Yo-- my bad, am I interupting?" I adjust my small mate on my lap and tuck her head into my neck. "You weren't just about to get laid were you..? Because in that case.. I can come back later." I can almost hear his smirk in his words, and you can bet he winked after that statement. I just roll my eyes.

"Nah, we can make it a threesome." I feel my mate tense up and I rub her back soothingly and kiss her temple before saying, "I was only joking angel," lowly into her ear.

"Oh, really? You've never been one to share, what's changed now?"

"Nothing, she's all mine." I smirk and squeeze her gently. "Why did you even come in here?"

"Oh.. I,uh.. got lost..?"

"That's highly unlikely.. I think you just missed me."

"Ha! Not a chance, buddy. I actually came because I heard our luna is a total babe, and I needed to check it out for myself."

In a swift moment, I'm standing and after I set my angel down I lunge towards his direction. He moves out of the way, causing my to slam straight into the door, head first.

He laughs and pats my back. "Easy there tiger, I was just joking." White that he slaps my ass and leaves my office.

A stand there for a minute, slightly embarrassed and confused. Then I hear a small whimper and I'm kneeling in front of my desk chair in an instant.

"Oh, no, baby.."

"It's Alison. Not baby. Not angel. Not mate. Alison." My wolf growls in the back of my head, furious that she would deny being our mate. But I just chuckle and scoop her up in my arms.

"Whatever you say, feisty angel." I carry her back to my room, and when she sees where we're going she begins to fight against me. "I won't hurt you.. I promise you, Alison. You need rest. I'll leave the room if it will make you more comfortable."

Alison quits fighting me and I slowly walk her to my room, finding the doorknob the same way I found my office's, I set her on her feet inside the door. She barely reaches nipple height on me standing and I smile.

"You can change into anything you like. Just call me if you need me, I'll be here." I gently stroke her cheek as I talk and then turn to leave.

"Wait!" I freeze with the door half closed. "What about my brother? How can I sleep when he could be being killed? Or tortured? Or beaten? He's probably so worried.. and scared.." At this point she's choking back tears and when I go to comfort her she flinches from my touch.

"I'll find your brother, I've already promised you such. Do you not believe me? I am a man of my word, Alison. You'll see."
